2022-23 Canes Misc. Thread

Just wait until they finally release the Stadium Series jerseys and they are the crappy black design that has been leaked. Canes staff is going to be surprised how many of those jerseys are left hanging on the racks. If we have to wait that long to finally get access to purchase these jerseys, they better be something better than what was leaked.

BTW ... a friend who was at the Flex STH event last night told me that Canes staff were telling people who asked that the Stadium Series jerseys weren't going to be released until Jan 26. My buddy also said that they seemed shocked when people were upset by that news.
I wish I were shocked....But more I R disappointed..

That seems to be the million dollar question…the plain Jane leaked ones no one will buy vs some top secret innovative design that could have sold like crazy if it was released before Christmas that somehow was kept hidden away that no one found out about. It’s the NHL so I’m going with door number one for $500 Alex!

NHL SOP

1) Have something interesting to fans
2) Make it nearly impossible to get information on
3)?
4) Profit!

Meh. If the sweaters are cool they’ll sell a ton. If not they’ll still sell a ton but less. There’s not that many people that care enough about the timing to make a difference. Sure if they had them at Christmas there is some marginal increase in overall merchandise revenue but that’s over represented in this community. Most people who had Canes gear on their list of gifts to buy weren’t set on that sweater. Also most people who were that specific are still going to buy one whenever they’re released and no matter if they’re cool or not.

The league can still be a joke and the above be true.

Not sure if this is the proper thread for this. Move (or delete) as you see fit, Mods.

So, I'm guessing the Hurricanes became buyers with losing Pacioretty to injury? The way he went down and stayed down, motionless does not speak well for the injury. Snakebit seems to be the word for his time here so far. I hate it too. I really wanted to see what this team was capable of once everything meshed.

Yeah, and the really sucky part (aside for him personally) is that he was able to get into the lineup with nary a bump in the road. I believe it was jeffbear that noted that he was able to do that in the past and no lies were detected when Patches finally got game time.

I think we already were buyers. Now I think we’ll need a hockey trade AND be bigger buyers. Assuming Pacioretty is done for the year what does that do to our available cap space?

Like 8.4 if Kase comes back..
I come up with around $7.8 million. They're currently dipping into available LTIR by a little less than $3.2 million. If you shift Pacioretty's $7 mil to LTIR and take off Kase, then they had a total LTIR pool of $11 mill and change. The difference between $11 mil and $3.2 mil is your available relief.

That's enough for a one serious rental forward. I think they'd also like to add another LD, but more of a support level guy.

No Pacioretty or Slavin at practice today. RBA will have a media scrum after practice.

Edit: Pacioretty’s MRI has been pushed back to Monday, per DeCock. But RBA should have an update on Slavin after practice.

With the Canes D effectively leading the scoring the past couple of weeks, if you are wondering what the franchise's NHL record is for most goals scored in a season by Defenseman, the number is 51, accomplished by the Whalers in each of their first 2 NHL seasons.

In 1979-80, Mark Howe, Al Sims and Gordie Roberts had 42 of the 51 goals scored by Dmen
In 1980-81, Mark Howe, Al Sims and Thommy Abrahamsson had 42 of the 51 goals scored by Dmen

The Canes record is 48, set in 2018-19 (Dougie Hamilton, Justin Faulk and Jaccob Slavin had 37 of those).

We can certainly expect the Canes Dmen this season to fall off their blistering pace of the past 2 weeks. The Dmen have scored 14 goals in the past 8 games. But the Canes and franchise records are definitely in jeopardy. The Canes Dmen already have 30 goals scored in 45 games which would put them on pace to finish with 55 goals.

Something useless to keep an eye on while we wait to see if the Pacioretty season ending injury spurs significant action by the Canes front office.

As for what happens now that Pacioretty is out for the season, given the Canes picked up Pacioretty as a solution to a severe issue scoring goals, I don't see how we don't make a significant trade to acquire someone who can score goals.

This is just going to amplify the 'Bo Horvat to Carolina' discussions. Yeah, Horvat is on an extreme heater this season (convenient timing), but again he fits multiple needs....he can score (better than Stastny can), he is very good at faceoffs (56%, although to be fair, Paul Stastny is at 58.5%), and he can kill penalties.

I dunno what the Canes are going to do here, but now with Pacioretty out, I'm thinking the likelihood we do something big just went up substantially. I don't expect we give up a ton of assets for a middling rental. We wouldn't trade for Horvat unless we could sign him long term. Yes I would be substantially nervous about overpaying Bo Horvat.

I don't see Ryan O'Reilly being someone that the Canes pursue now. We need someone who can score goals.

With Patches out for probably the rest of the season (yes, speculation on my part), any trade that Waddell can work out will probably cost the team more since the need level has increased. So, who is our likely tradebait? Turbo? Jarvy? Or maybe someone in the system that Vancouver may have its eye on plus a draft pick?

The prospect pool isn’t what it was. Scott Wheeler is in the process of updating his team prospect rankings. He had the Canes at 9 in last year’s analysis which was done in February. He had Morrow, Suzuki, Koivunen, Gunler and Drury as 1-5 and said any of the first 4 could be listed at 1. Rees, Honka, Keane (gone), Puistola and Bokk (as good as gone) were the next 5. Koochie, Nybeck, Fensore, Ponomaryov, Blake, Heimosalmi, Nikishin (signed in the KHL until 2025), Hreschuk (gone), Seeley and Pashin were 11-20. While not bare, it’s a lot sparser than it was last year and will turn on how he ranks the 2022 draftees. Corey Pronman gave the Canes a B and said all of the top 4; Trikozov, Perevalov, Forsmark and Lucius could eventually play in the league.

I think Waddell will have to move someone on the roster. Turbo has a 10 team NTC, CapFriendly also shows Stastny, Slavin (he’s untouchable), Burns, Skjei and Andersen having some sort of NTC.
