OT: Vacations

This was about 16 years back now that I'm thinking about it.

Dunno when it slid, but everything I've heard suggests that its slid harrrrd

It's the one cautionary tale that gives me pause about moving to vallarta in a few years tbh. Very similar cities until not that long ago.

You dive Belize yet?
Not yet, but one day. My wife still needs to learn so we need to find a place where she can get certified and I can have fun. Belize probably ticks both boxes...likely a 2024 excursion, 2023 is pretty packed already.

I snorkel but used to dive. Once I fractured my C2 my diving days were over. All you have to hear is "potential paralysis" and you find other things to do.

That said, it's really beautiful.

If you're ever in the cancun area with kids I recommend Xel-Ha. Safe and the reefs are gorgeous

I suspect the cartels leave the Mayan alone due to the hotels cleaning money for them.

Generally speaking, the problem areas are where multiple cartels are involved in turf struggles, not places that one cartel runs shit.

Generally.

went there when I didn't have a kid. Equally fun. Was planning to go this winter, but put it off till next year (If no cartel presence in the area that is :D)

Anybody that’s been to Kauai have any recommendations? We’re taking a helicopter around to mostly see the “Grand Canyon of Hawaii” and the coast today but still looking to fill out some days.

What area of the Island are you staying? I'm more familiar with the North Shore and can give you some more info if you're staying there at all.

"Grand Canyon of the Pacific" is amazing.

North Shore is beautiful and the Napali Coast is must see. Hike it, take a boat, see it by helicopter. It's like an entire 1/3rd of the island with no roads that is smack you in the face beautiful. If you're into hiking, you can actually hike a good portion of the Napali Coast on the Kalalau Trail and camp on a beach that's only accessible by hiking or boat. I didn't make it as far as the beach when I went, but wish I had of. Looks unreal. You can also just day hike it and there's also a pretty nice waterfall/swimming hole detour (Hanakoa Falls) on that same trail that can be done same day in and out.

Kalalau Trail is often closed in winter though due to conditions.

Our base is out of Princeville so North Shore so that’s awesome that you’ve been up here. We are doing just the first couple mile hike that gets to the beach on the Kalalau trail provided it doesn’t get too wet. We’re going to rent kayaks in Hanalei and just cruise the river for a bunch of the day today.

alright, so I am in Hamilton for a couple days for work. I started with seven hearings in two days, now I'm down to three and may soon be down to two so I will have some extra time to spare.

anything worth seeing / doing / eating?

I am downtown with a car.

Victorias steak house was good on new years eve, cima if you want wood fired pizza, old school restaurant called shakespears is a good time. Collective arts is good and I've been told that "Grandads doughnuts" does the old Tim's recipes.

Depends on what you want to do stoney creek has some good stuff and same with oakville/burlington.

Best things to do in Hamilton are the things just outside the actual city. The escarpment means there's some good hikes and mountain biking, particularly up toward Ancaster/Dundas. Waterfalls all over the place. Picked a shitty month for it, although it will probably be nice after a snowfall tomorrow.

Canadian Warplane Museum by the Hamilton Airport is actually pretty cool, if you're into that kind of thing. I know some people from Australia who are pilots and way into planes, and they knew about it and were dying to go. It's apparently pretty famous among aviation enthusiasts. It has one of two remaining Lancaster bombers in the world that still fly.
