And I do like Dach on the first line if he can bloody stay healthy. Slafkovsky is far too inconsistent but may find mojo with Demidov and Duchene.

You can't really prove something that's hypothetical (and not necessarily obvious), but the Habs have played a lot better since Dach was out for the year (could be a coincidence). Those horrible +/- that some of his teammates had have stabilized (again, just some evidence, nothing conclusive). He still has the rare physical element, but that also led to some bad penalties (like during a Rangers game). It's true that Newhook has a Habs-era Lehkonen knack for missing easy chances, but you can argue the team gets those opportunities when he's on the ice (that he messes up, yes). But that's this year, Newhook is a fairly low bar and hopefully Dach comes back better next year.
 
Dach is far better than Newhook. There's nothing other than opinion supporting the contrary. All the nerdies are there.

Yes Dach has struggled with injuries that have affected his game and has had bad games but he's also had good ones and was turning it around before going down to injury again.

Newhook is over glorified here. He's a speedster with little finish and also brainfarts like Dach. I would not spend a second thought on him should he be traded. In my opinion he is a progress stopper. Yet another player that people think is better than he is and will eventually get there, except he won't.

Wait, what!? I didn't use +/- as an argument, nor did I used any sampling size. I just said Dach has been bad overall, except for a few good games. I like 50 points Dach too, but that's not what we got this year. Instead we generally got a lazy vacuum centering our 2nd line. Both were healthy this year, there is only so much extent I can excuse Dach for coming back from a major injury.

But if you ask me to chose between this year version of Dach or Newhook, I'll pick Newhook. At least the effort is there and he's creating chances. Dach was just a bunch of nothing for most of the year. But I know he's a better player when he wants to.

Sadly I'm dead sober. I like Dach, but I didn't like him this year. I take into account the injury, but it doesn't fully excuse the lack of effort he displayed most of the season. But I didn't like Newhook in the first 3 months either.

Seriously, what has Newhook done? You guys seem all impressed with speed. Sure he's healthy. 25 points in 80 games and you're all falling over yourselves.

Lord these Habs need to clinch tonight to get some semblance of sanity back around here.

So you're whole thing is effort. Because Newhook skates around missing opportunities, losing the puck, peeling off checks etc he's great because he skates fast that makes it look like effort.

This is seriously what I'm reading here. Anyone that takes Newhook over Dach should be nowhere near a NHL GM office.

And, as everyone knows, I'm also very modest and happy for you to point these obvious things about Newhook and Dach out to the less enlightened posters among us.

For the record and unless I see improvement, I will happily give up on Newhook becoming anything more than he is right now before I give up on Dach.
