Habs Season Thread: Offseason 2025

We will find out Monday if Armia and Dvo are even possibilities. There is no way we lose half
Of our core PK unit in one off season.
I think Armia returns since he wants to.

They need to get bigger, tougher and meaner. There was no response, or at least not enough, to the Caps bitch-slapping them.
I disagree. We got out goalied and our scoring came up short. That's the reason we lost. Did they out physical us? Sure... but that wasn't the reason we lost.

I have no problem with us getting a bit more physical, but not at the expense of getting more skilled.

Dvo already spoke about the Habs in the past tense during locker day. I think Hughes is a straight shooter.

Adding a couple of bottom 6 forwards like Brandon Duhaime wouldn’t come at the expense of any skill. Hockey is a game for a-holes, we need a couple of tbem. Our D needs to get bigger too. Not sure if Hudson and Carrier can co-exist. Carrier is small.

The things you bring up or valid. This is the hard part of the rebuild and I think we still have time to get there.

How does one do that at this point of the journey ?
The same methodology Bill Zito used right after being named GM, was able to acquire Tkachuk, Reinhart, Bennett, Forsling, and Montour in exchange for Huberdeau, Weeger, one 1st rounder, two 2nd rounders and Heineken - that’s a 6-month effort even Sam Pollock never matched

I get it, being a GM in no state tax and ocean/beach south Florida is an enormous enabler.

This off-season is going to be telling about HuGo’s pro player movement abilities, which has been the low point of their performance to date w trading for picks being exceptional but trading for pro players debatable

Lekhonen vs Barron - F
Cap space for Monahan - A++
Barron vs Carrier - A

Why not? Have we suddenly stopped caring about development now that we squeaked into a playoff berth and were annihilated once we got there? Keeping Dvorak and Armia makes no damn sense unless all you care about is making the playoffs. Bottom 6 players should always come from within your organization, ergo Beck and Flo-Jack.

Learning how to block shots and kill penalties are the easiest skills to learn and require the least amount of god-given talent to do well. Let Beck and Florian play with the Habs full time next season and by next summer you won't even remember that Armia or Dvorak were ever here.

I wouldn’t waste a penny on either one.

It's the eternal dilemma, do you give spots to the young players or do you make them earn it? At the same time you don't want to have young players be the 13th forward too often. MSL and Hugo has shown in the past that they were not shy of cutting underperforming vets, like Armia the previous year.

Yeah. So if Xhekaj, Beck, or Kapanen, etc have good Calder runs and do well in camp that is as much as they can earn it and you start with them. But, it’s contingent and the 13th and 14th need to be credible (unlike Pezzetta).

I would consider Armia as 13/14 for the right money and term. He’s a good egg and handled his demotion well. He might be suited for this role at this stage of his career.

Dvorak is gone.

Defintely not manhandled. Game 4 was Washingtons best and they were hardly physical. They just played a much better defensive game blocking so many shots. PP was the difference too.

At the end of the day we lost in five games, not seven. You can say we had a chance to win the series . . . but we didn’t. We only scored 12 goals, about half on the PP. All in all, the Caps won pretty easily, relatively speaking.
And they scored 16, 4 ENG. 3 ppg. So 9 even. we scored 7 even iirc.. Their goalies outperformed us in last 2 games.

Their own coach said it wasn't a typical 4-1 series.

For a team that was 31st on Dec 1, it was far from annihilation.
