Around The League - 2025 Offseason

Since Matthews was drafted, Leafs have made the post season nine times, we have made it four. They have two series wins, we have four.

It’s a trickier call that generally acknowledged, I think. Yeah, he walks and you get cap space. That’s valuable. And if you’re going for it, go for it. That’s what they did.

Toronto is thin for prospects and has no picks. He could have got them a boatload, but at the cost of throwing away the season and perhaps alienating Matthews and Nylander.

Kinda messy.
Need to make tough decisions , Leafs simply cave every year

Terrible asset management

Problem with wanting Marner out of town is that he is a 100 point player with nothing in return.

Same for Tavares.

Sure you have $15 million in cap space but we know how that works for Canadian markets. Might go unused.
Exactly changes need to be made but 16 is tough to replace

Cap space is great but what you gonna do pay Ehlers 8.5 and a slug 5 to use that money

Your fucked when you wait til the bitter end

The Toronto media sets these guys up for failure. They fawn over them constantly, overrate them beyond belief and then are surprised when they don’t win.

Their “vaunted” D actually sucks and Morgan Rielly might be the single most overrated player in the NHL. Matthews is fine when it’s game 43 in Columbus on a Tuesday night but has never produced when it matters. Shit, these mouth breathers are obsessed with Tanev because he blocks a million shots, overlooking the fact that the Leafs are almost always caved when he’s on the ice.

Maybe, just maybe, they aren’t actually that good

Great points. But they also win if Stolarz didn’t get hurt and none of the doom and gloom exists today.

Really critical and yet awkward off season for that entire franchise and fan base.

There’s a legit argument that they should resign Marner and then sort out roster construction after July 1.

Ducks and Utah are gonna go hard for Marner, so that’s a deadline.

Stolarz was Bob's backup. Dont assume that he would have made a difference. The Leafs didn't lose this series because of goaltending.

I've called them a fraud for the last 5 years and every spring they prove me right.

Marner is NOT a little ball of hate type player. I could see Verbeek putting in a mega offer sheet for Knies though.

I’m expecting SJS & Chi to go ALL IN for Marner - Sharks probably use Jumbo Joe as their point man to sell San Jose to fellow Ontarian & former teammate Marner

I also don’t discount Dubas, however, he did have a deal in place for Marner before his NMC kicked in, only to have the trade vetoed by Shana-plan a couple of years back

Playoff Marner is easy to replace and the Leafs are more than good enough to make the playoffs without regular season Marner. He's a waste of cap space.

As mentioned above Utah, Anaheim, Chicago, San Jose, even Calgary and Columbus are going to go hard after marner. He will get his money one way or the other. All those teams have a lot of cap space.

Heck if we can lose Laine’s contract. I think the habs will go in on him too.
