OT: The News Thread

I'm being serious! I get that as you age there are some inherent biases, and every subsequent generation thinks the previous ones are slackers.

but I'm at the point now where I have a pretty sizeable sample of anecdotal data that paints an extremely unflattering picture of the Zers. and then you also have their voting record, which is... let's just say confusing.

how are they gonna save us from ourselves? and the boomers? and climate change? etc. etc.

like I don't mind you mocking us for mocking Gen Zers, but I wish there was some substance to support the mockery :)

that and I am pretty certain that over time (assuming science survives) we're gonna see some really interesting studies about how technology (mostly smartphones) changed how our brains are wired and work. I'm one of the last generation to go through high school without smartphones... having that tech as a teenager has to have an impact. I am very curious the nature and extent of it. anyways

These are people at a highly impressionable age surrounded by endless cesspool content on social media and podcasts. All things considered, they're not doing that bad tbh. Odds are stacked against them.

50% of boomers like JP

This isn't a cage match to determine who is the most shit. Just a question of shit vs not shit.

Starting to look like their own brand of shit, but with time left to buck the trend of generations getting more shit as they get older. I had higher hopes for them.

The pro argument originally was that they would be immune to the cesspoll given their experience of being raised in it. That has turned out to definitely not be the case. They're as prone to conspiratorial bullshit as previous generations.
Some very very intelligent, successful people get caught up in that stuff. It's no surprise that the demographic that spends the most time online had one of the largest shifts to the "trendy" political movement in recent years.

I find it crazy just like observing Gen Zers in public spaces. I honestly don't think it's a stretch to say that their online world is more 'real' to them than the real world. and vice versa.

but again, I wait for the research, assuming science survives. cause I know much of my views are based on anecdotes and my biased experiences.

but judging by the lack of substantive responses by zeke, I fear he has no substance to add :(

They were supposed to be savvy enough to know that they were getting "Palantir'd" into riding the wave.

Honestly, a large portion of my overall bullishness on them as a generation was in the expectation of them straight up being superior in sniffing out the new generation of online narrative shaping technology and propaganda bullshit, and depending on which subject you check in on, they're one of the worst. Their performance at identifying covid vaccine propaganda, if memory serves, was worse than any other by Gen X.

To be fair, Gen X's numbers get skewed a lot by Count. On X when I posted that of course Trump was on Epstein Island raping kids, his only reply was "Pretty defamatory".

Spot on, with the bolded part emphasizing the root of the concern. They seem willing to flop around wherever they need to be idealogically if someone will speak to their concerns of affordability.
So they don't treat political parties like their fav sports team?!?
