Playoff GDT: Round 1, Game 2 Canes v. Senators 4/20 7:30

Canes were destroyed in the circle again last night, even worse than Saturday, 64-36. What makes it worse is that late in the 2nd it was 50-50 but it went downhill from there.

Millier led in TOI at 34:56. Slavin, Chatfield and Walker all played more than 30 minutes. If you thought Jake Sanderson was always on the ice, you’re not too far off. He played 43:06, Cabot was also over 40 minutes, Spence played 39, Matinpalo played 31. O forward from either team played more than 30, Stutzle came closest at just over 29.

Canes also got outhit 52-43. The disparity was much bigger, but the Canes turned it up in OT.

Sanderson appears to have iron lungs and him and Chabot never seemed to go off the ice. I guess as a Sens fan you say that's awesome and a Canes fan you say that starts to take a toll as the series goes on in any length...

We won the first, both teams were pretty equal in the second, and the Sens won the third. Our FO woes against this team are understandable, but it really makes it hard to play our game. Fortunately, our strong puck possession/forecheck and running all 4 lines has given us an edge. Last night our special teams won the day - although it's hard to believe that we only got one PP. Freddie has been great (so has Ulmark). Now on to Ottawa!

And the explanation of why the penalty shot was still awarded after the goal was chalked off.

After watching that replay about a hundred times on Staal carrying that puck across the blue line, that is not at all the spirit of the rule on video review to me. Staal had full possession the entire time across that line, everything else the NHL tried to craft to fit the narrative on he didn't have control is a bunch of bullshit. If you break down that kinda stuff one hundred times in the league office you can always find something to try and sell to say no goal. Those types of plays should not take 15 minutes to dissect if the call on the ice is a good goal.

Control is having your stick on the puck. There was a point that he did not and that’s what they are using to justify it.

Good thing they won the stat that counts

Nobody carrying the puck has it constantly on their stick. He was in control of the puck before and as he crossed and after. If you’re going to have that rule that’s exactly what they mean. Might as well get rid of it if it’s not.

Sure. Everybody wants them to overturn game winning goals with that kind of justification. That’s exactly why everyone tunes in.
