The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

If they are planning to talk to Matthews and specifically Willy as a part of the decision on the coach - he is definitely gone from how Nylander likely feels about him

Because he was shit at his job and has done nothing since to prove he’s improved. “Maturing” is a funny way of saying “I hope he smartened up” and doesn’t prove he’s any better than he was before.
He wasn’t shit at his job. Some good picks. Some not so good. Some good trades. Others not so much. Player dev was pretty good. No real bad signings (outside of maybe OEL but then that’s a guy who is still a good dman). Don’t think he got fleeced in any trasdes.

Meanwhile his resources here in terms of analytics and $ to bring in the right scouts and coaches will far exceed what was available to him in Phx.

Like, this can’t be Mehta or bust.

He inherited a core of Hanzal-Doan-Strome-OEL-Smith and left them with Keller-Schmaltz-Crouse-Hayton-Hall-Chychrun-OEL-Kuemper.

He left the team much better than he found it. His guys are still the Mammoths 1st line 6 years later.

Total opposite of Tre.

That team was shit when he was there. And pretty shit since he left. None of those moves led to playoffs.

Anyway I’m not trying to get into it. I hope he’s good here. Just wouldn’t surprise me in the least if this was the final nail in the coffin of this Matthews era.

Again, not a Chayka guy. But when he got there the Coyotes were shit and old. When he left they were less shit and young. The young "core" he inherited was OEL, Domi, Duclair, Rieder, Connor Murphy.

He inherited a bad rebuild and turned it into an okay rebuild that they're currently enjoying a bit in Utah. He did an okay job there. I was just hoping for more than an okay front office given the opportunity we had here.

As for whether or not this is a final nail in the Matthews era, well, I think Matthews health is a bigger determining factor of that than anything else. If we're in his 80 point elite 2 way centre slow decline era, well, the window is over without massive additions. If we get 60 goal Auston Matthews back, just putting a real puck moving blueline behind him gets us back into the mix.

The Maple Leafs will announce they’ve hired Mats Sundin, who returns to the organization as Senior Executive Advisor, Hockey Operations. It’s a full-time commitment; he and his family are moving to Toronto.

:ROFLMAO:

This organization never does anything properly. Not a fan of Chayka, I am willing to give Mats a shot though to see what he brings to the table.

I hate being a Leafs fan

Looks like Mats is the Shane Doan/Spezza but they are paying him more so he gets exec title.

He shouldn’t have final say on hockey decisions though. Shany having tha fucked us.
