After taking college hitters with their first three picks in the 2024 Draft, the Twins dipped their toes in the high-end high school arm bucket by drafting Hill, a projectable left-hander from Texas, in the Competitive Balance Round B, signing him for an above-slot $2 million. While on a monitored workload, he dominated the Single-A Florida State League, posting a 2.77 ERA, .190 batting average against and 11.8 K/9 over 52 innings, earning a late promotion to High-A Cedar Rapids and capping things off with a Midwest League playoff win.
The Twins were thrilled with how Hill acclimated to pro ball. His fastball touched 99 mph at times and averaged 95 during his debut season and it’s not tough to imagine hitting upper registers more consistently as he continues to add strength to his 6-foot-5 frame. His low-80s sweeper was his go-to secondary, producing a 41-percent miss rate according to Synergy and he also has a big upper-70s curve that missed bats at the same rate, though he throws it less frequently. His 84-mph changeup was key in neutralizing right-handed hitters. There isn’t a need to tinker too much with his arsenal, especially after he posted a strikeout rate over 30 percent in 2025, but something like a cutter or a harder slider could be useful for a different look from his two big breaking balls.
Other than the need for more innings, Hill’s next order of business will be to attack the zone more, with those harder, shorter secondary offerings perhaps easier to land in the zone. The walk rate was high, but there’s confidence that will improve with time and the Twins are excited to see what he can do in year two, at age 20, after spending all offseason at the complex in Fort Myers."
