While it’s entirely possible Poilievre is deluded enough to believe that staying on his current course is eventually going to pay off as a winning strategy, I also wonder if he’s just given up on being PM.

And at this point, he’s just desperately trying to hold onto enough of that rural prairie and/or Maple MAGA base to be able to keep the free taxpayer-funded mansion and salary bump that come along with being the Leader of the Opposition.
 
I don't think he's the type of guy to willingly give away anything. Someone will have to take power from him, and he's still popular with the wingnut core of the party.

he's also being funded by maga south and fully on board with project north america, so i don't know that he cares too much about his popularity with canadians. he thinks he can ride the trump train.
