This is as bad a GSVA comp for the Leafs as you'll see this year. Avalanche are realgud. And hot. And of course Daddy Mack returns tonight to give them iirc their first game with all their core players together.

Huge test of our defensive structure in this one. And we're going to need to exploit their goalies' shaky play so far. Hopefully the loss of the stache unlocks Auston's yuge....er....shot.

Historically it feels to me that we play up to our competition. Expecting the young guns to bring the fire. Should be a fun game.

Sakic was basically a laughingstock throughout hockey fandom until he absolutely wrecked the Sens on the Matt Duchene trade.

Been a pretty steady uphill climb for his reputation since then.
 
Sakic and Yzerman are both winners who come off as serious-minded ultra competitive types.

Not surprised that they've fared well.

No, fuck them. That's our window and their shit catches up to them this summer. Kadri, Burakovsky, Nichushkin, Kuemper & Murray are UFA's this summer, Mack & Compher the following. Though E Johnson expires that same summer so that should free up the money for most of the Mack raise.

Kind of amazing what massive breakouts, and high draft picks can do for your program especially when at the same time you have other orgs punting on good players for various reasons at discount prices. Kadri, Burakovsky for Kosmachuk + 2nd + 3rd, Toews for 2 2nds, turning Duchene into Girard, Byram, and a bunch of picks/prospects.

Points for being in the right place at the right time.
 
Kadri will be coming in guns blazing. Would enjoy seeing Wayne welcome him back if he gets out of hand
