GDT: Round 2, Game 4 Canes v. Caps 5/12, 7:00

Yeah, he was doing a mocking version of the Viking clap towards Staal at one point when the Caps were still down 2-0.

Also during 1st intermission Pat Maroon said how he used to “love” playing against the hurricanes because their style was perfect for his game

In 29 games against the hurricanes in his career he has 4 points and is -5.

I’ll take “Can I change my answer for $1000, Alex”

The extra day before Game 5 is going to feed the 'Canes should get Nikishin into a game now just in case we need him later' calls. Hopefully the extra day helps Chatfield. I know the Caps had more come from behind wins than any other team in the league, but at least in this series they look old and slow. When their blueline is pushing they are very careless on coverages.

I don't know what old ESA, RBC, PNC ghost grabbed onto Rasmus Sandin's stick blade along the boards on that 3rd period play, but the hockey gods were smiling on us for sure on that play.

Since neither the Caps nor Canes have a best writer at The Athletic, Sean Gentile is covering the series. The last section is all about Nikishin.

Yeah, Washington just isn't generating enough 5v5 without aggressively activating their D in the offensive zone. That's how they got their first goal, with both D ending up in the goal crease area, but it's also going to lead to organization problems in transition and Carolina isn't allergic to being aggressive in transition anymore. That's one of the low key changes to Roddy's system this season that we have noticed ... because we play close attention to our own team ... but most of the national types really haven't. It's not just Hall either, although it's easy to see him play in transition and extrapolate. Roslovic and Blake have been big boosts to Carolina's transition game all season, and the D routinely get in the mix too. They may not be the Stars or Avs with multiple jailbreak rushes per game, but this is not the old chip and check Canes either.
