OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Entirely possible. Though the organization is notoriously junk as well. You obviously consult with BI, Scottie, and IQ before you do something like this. If there's red flags in those conversations, don't do it. You're not trading for a fully formed superstar that takes the org up a level or three here, you're trading for an enigma with a bunch of risk that needs to be assumed, who might turn into a top 5 type player.

i think the odds of Zion being anything other than a dumb fat crazy person are remote.

but I also agree with zeke that he is most likely never gonna come close to fulfilling his potential and may just be a forever headcase.

then again, Lowry was looked upon somewhat similarly when we acquired him (minus the sexual assault allegations, of course)

Very real possibility tis true, but i'd like to see him with a competent organization. The Pelicans are one of the worst run groups in the league.

I like the idea of Zion for Detroit too

Where Zion really intrigues me is that I think we can sometimes overlook the role of the organization in developing star players. There's some guys who hit the league with pro habits and a pro mindset, but most of these guys are 19-20 yr olds hoopers who just became millionaire celebrities and have some impulses that need dealing with. New Orleans has a reputation around the league for just being a shit organization that does a bad job on the physical and professional development of their players. The Raptors are widely considered one of the best organizations at this side of things. When Zion came back from injury last year, he looked like the best version of Zion we've seen. It's not like we're talking about getting 300+ pound Zion still not taking his career seriously and us having to work with him to get him down to a playing weight. He got down to his lightest weight since the draft, he might have already turned the corner on that himself finally.

Yeah, there's a handful of teams in our situation where the young core is young but not that young, and good but not that good. Us, Detroit, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Memphis, Portland.

Shit...even a contending team watching their window close like Denver or Milwaukee should be considering something like this.

There's also been a lot of talk that they won't trade Scottie in a package for Giannis. Of course they will.
Masai/Bobby have been big on Scottie and called him our leader and franchise player for years. I could see them trying to keep him out of trade talks, especially if he’s someone Giannis wants to play with here. And on the other hand, they may be willing to move him for player as good as Giannis and perhaps there’s no deal without him being included.

Regime has to find the right balance between contending and not ripping up the future like many of the bad deals we have seen with other organizations

Raps simply have to call the shots on the trade package or fuck it and move on to Zion or something else

I think Zion’s shooting and lack of length will always hold him back from being truly elite regardless of his efficiency stats.

But he’s intriguing for sure cause he’s an insane talent.
