Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

even after lucking into the #1 pick, a bunch of Grumpy McGrumpersons over here!

I mean, I'll give this to you---I have ton of respect for your team's management (liked them since they were first hired), your coaching staff. I like the way your team is constructed, the way they play and all the young skill on the roster. And the Habs have even been my preferred victor in both of their series so far! Fuck both the Lightning and the Sabres.

But another Stanley Cup? No. Any Hab fan posting on this board is old enough to have seen their team in the Cup final multiple times and is old enough to remember them winning at least one Stanley Cup. And many of you have seen them win multiple Cups, with the older ones of you even getting to experience a dynasty. So you guys can wait your turn---no more Cups for the Habs until the Leafs get their turn at least once!

The point of it all is for us to have the nice things and no one else to have any nice things.

AI suggests you may need to rethink that

A big reason Mitch Marner left the Toronto Maple Leafs was the culture surrounding the team and its fan base.

In Toronto, decades of frustration have created an environment where every playoff loss becomes emotionally overwhelming and often gets taken out on individual players. Marner became the main target, but the bigger issue was the constant negativity around the franchise — intense criticism, scapegoating, and a feeling that players are never fully embraced unless they win immediately.

At some point, that wears people down. Elite players want pressure and passion, but they also want support, perspective, and some level of joy around the game.

There’s an argument that until Leafs fans rediscover some of that joy — and stop treating every season like a looming disaster — the franchise may keep struggling to hold onto or attract the kind of stars they say they want.

1. Playing in Toronto is very hard

2. Atlantic has been ridicuhard for years now.

3. This is why you don't get rid of supposed "playoff underperformers" like mitch and kadri etc. And matthews obviously.

4. Nice outburst by Mitch last night but very good chance he ends up with similar playoff ppg as most years here. Before last night he was at 9pts in 8gms, which he's matched many times before.

  1. Playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs is uniquely hard. The pressure, scrutiny, and emotional swings from the fan base are unlike almost anywhere else in hockey.
  2. The Atlantic Division has also been brutally competitive for years. Toronto kept running into elite teams early, which amplified every disappointment and made good seasons feel like failures.
  3. That’s why constantly turning on “playoff underperformers” can become self-destructive. Players like Nazem Kadri and Mitch Marner were treated like core problems until they left or were pushed out, while Auston Matthews has faced similar heat despite being one of the best players in the world. At some point, if every star eventually becomes the villain, the issue may be bigger than the players themselves.

He’s played well and stood out since game 6 of the previous series. Yeh, the competition is shit - but I mean it’s an improvement to the CBJ and Habs series against those shit teams.

But yeh, can’t wait for someone to hit him once and then how he won’t go near the net again. Ducks forgot about being physical once against him will ruin his offensive game forever

Eh he didn't stand out much at all this series before last night.

Oh, we do need to chill the fuck out a bunch but that's mostly our media. They're fucking horrific.

With that said, it starts with the organization imo. Shanahan should have taken on the Pat Quinn role instead of being a quiet, shitty suit for 10 years. The only way this works imo is when someone in the front office is willing to be the villain and take the media heat.

Eh he didn't stand out much at all this series before last night.

He’s going to the slot, creating on the PK, some great chances created by him 5v5, and looks as good as game 20 of a leafs season.

I think he’s a jack ass and hope he gets bitten by his dog as he walks it while scrolling through insta hate comments. But he’s doesn’t look like his usual shell of himself.

Hasn’t he had only like two good games?

I don’t even care to see his highlights last night but I did see the hat trick goal flash across and if that muffin is representative of his night, big whoop.
