The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I know there's a recency bias here but (safely) assuming Chayka is just getting started... I can't remember the last Leafs GM to have so many of their moves undone so quickly as Treliving. Like even he himself got the the ball rolling when he got fleeced at the trade deadline.

I don’t think Shanahan could have, even if he deliberately tried, come up with any better way to completely and thoroughly shred his legacy in this town than he did by hiring Treliving.

Because, yeah. Just a complete disaster from start to finish, the likes of which this town hasn’t seen since maybe Gord Stellick in the dying days of the Harold Ballard era. Even JFJ doesn’t compare. And all the worse for being completely predictable based on his track record in Calgary.
 
If there's one thing about Chayka and his time in Phoenix, it's that he has balls. The number of transactions that guy made there is crazy. He will be aggressive and take risks. Let's just hope it's the right risks!

This is, of course, one of the easiest decisions a human being has ever had to make, but still. The length of time this took led to too much unnecessary anxiety.
