The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

"Have you ever considered whether your system requires your players to work much harder than the other teams in order to be successful?"

You know, I’ve never heard MSL say “we gotta dig in”

his overused fallback is “we didn’t manage the puck well tonight” which is infinitely better because it’s something you can actually measure and point to when rewatching tape

the least amount of games i ever watched was definitely after they traded Phil. pretty much skipped that whole next season. I think i even disappeared from the boards.

this year i still watched, but an unprecedented amount of "muted 2nd screen" watching.

yeah it's not just a dumb thing to say, but it just exposes you as a dumb and incompetent person for continually repeating it.

The Berube overhang was sullying the McKenna experience. I was shuddering to think of what he might do to mess up the kid, and how his influence would detract from the potential amazingness he's going to inject into the on-ice product.

This is a breath of fresh air for literally everyone in the organization, the players, and the fans.

This is a good article from a MSM person

actually a very good article...but also one that could have and should have been written before the move was made. Though maybe he did write similar before i dunno.

I'm not saying Chayka is deliberately pushing off the matthews sit-down, and he'd have already done it if matthews lived in the city tbh.....but you gotta like how he's not making a big deal of it or making it some kind of urgent priority.

Talk is cheap. Far better for Chayka to be doing a full audit and making clearcut changes and demonstrating a clear plan and philosophy through real world actions - he knows that that will do more to reassure Matthews than anything he can say to him in a meeting. In fact if Chayka came in kissing his ass and asking his permission for moves that would probably have pushed Matthews away more than anything else.

I was curious the other day and looked up David Carle after he was raving about McKenna and holy shit has he ever been successful.

( but also Jesus Christ will I ever feel ancient if the GM and coach of the leafs are both born in 1989)
Hawks tried really hard to pry him from the UNI of Denver and i heard their offer was making him one of if not the highest paid coach and he declined.

Leafs should give him a hard look too.

I mean he also doesnt really need to tell the truth about any of this.
