The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Trading Knies would be tough. But man I don’t think I’ve seen a true #1 dman in my life. Does Kaberle count? Probably the closest.

Would be nice if we pulled a rabbit out of the hat with some of our scraps/prospects for a top pairing guy. Robertson/Cowan/Danford/Avs 1st are pretty much the only assets we have to trade.

Love Kabby, but the closest Leaf fans of our vintage have seen is probably still the 25 or so games we got of Brian Leetch.

Even at the end of his career, it was immediately clear how far and away he was ahead of guys like McCabe and Kaberle.

That's one of my underlying reasons for wanting to take the chance on Raddysh. He's been top 10 good this year. That guy is worth taking a risk to land so that you don't have to give up top assets like Knies to get one.

The only way I trade Knies is if it's for that package of the 2nd overall, Misa and a defenseman.
Then you draft Mckenna and verhoeff, carier, or chase Reid.

Then I trade Matthews cuz I'm sick of his shit. But to Utah for Schmaltz, McBain, . And Weeger

Then I sign Scott Laughton for the 3C spot.

It is, kinda.

But people like him do Infact have a significant impact on the narratives surrounding this team and those things do have a real world impact on who is willing to play here, for how much, etc.

The circus makes everything more difficult and muppets like Pronman all play a role in it being a circus

Not sure. Don’t think Pronman has much credibility or impact. He’ll be lucky if his piece gets a few hundred comments. Can’t think of anyone in the hockey media these days that people actually listen to….maybe in the old days

Players talk to other players and their agents …who talk to other agents.

That’s why I like the Habs set up. An ex agent runs the show, so he’s very dialed in on what players want. Plus he’s surrounded by a ton of ex players like Lecavalier, Byron, etc

I expect Chayka to hire his own group of “player development consultants” shortly

Pronman is a contrarian who says off the wall things to look like the smartest guy in the room with a hot new take .

In 2 years he’ll do a redraft and his opinions will be shattered

I had Leetch in my head but it’s like he wasn’t even here imo. Way too short. But agree 100%

It's not Pronman in a vacuum of course, yeah, most casuals don't even know his name. But all of them together make up a bullshit industrial complex which does make Toronto a far more difficult place to play than it should be.
