Summer 2026 Transfer Thread

I wondered if Saudi investment in Newcastle was going to continue apace … I’m guessing maybe not. Then again, with the stupid financial rules, that could net them a tidy profit to re-invest. Newcastle, like Villa, just doesn’t have the ancillary revenue to spend like the teams that have massive international fan bases do.

It's kind of funny how they are paying about three times the fee for Gordon than they would have had to for Rashford, but I'm assuming that Gordon's wage demands were significantly less than Rashford's which is the bigger issue for them.

I saw some speculation that Gordon’s weekly wages will be roughly one third what Rashford gets. He’s still quite a good player, but his salary is just so far out of whack with what Rashford actually does that it makes him impossible to navigate.

And in a move widely anticipated (and apparently not abandoned), Andy Robertson is signing on a free with Spurs. ☹️

Love Andy … a cornerstone of the Scottish team for a long time now. I was kind of hoping he’d decide to skip the Spurs mess and go enjoy playing in Italy instead. I’ll be happy to be able to watch him play more often though.

Allan Saint-Maximin is in talks to move to Charlotte FC as a Designated Player. He’s been at Ligue 1 side Lens since January but started the season at Club America in Mexico.

Yeah, Zaha’s slowing down a bit but doesn’t want to see his wages drop in recognition of that. That’s the price of leaning so much on those aging Euros. You have to have a succession plan.

I personally don't think Konate is that good, but you really need to stop letting players get into the last year of their contract. Is the Fenway group still just stuck on the ideas of how contracts work in American sports? The second a player with any value can see the end of their contract, they have absolutely no reason to sign a new contract or accept a transfer rather than just seeing out the remainder and going wherever they want with a much higher wage/bonus.

Must be nice to be able to continually light money on fire and still not have any issues with the financial regulations. Must be nice.

Sam Kerr is joining Gotham FC on a free transfer after her contract with Chelsea ended. She played for their predecessor club, Sky Blue from 2015-17

I hope she can get a run of good health. She’s barely played since that spectacular run between 2020 and 2023, managing just 26 total appearances for Chelsea in the last three seasons.

Counting the domestic cups and Champions League, it was a total of 42 appearances, with none in the ruined 2024-25 season. She made 30 appearances across all competitions last season of the 37 that Chelsea played.

Disappointed that ACFC let promising young forward Kennedy Fuller depart yesterday, so you can imagine my surprise later in the day when they prised Ally Sentnor from the KC Current. 😳
Didn't see that one coming, especially as Ally had just arrived in KC.

Liverpool's first signing under the new Iraola regime (second one this year) is Spanish national team left winger Victor Munoz. Looks like rumours of Cody Gakpo's departure are more likely.

Second summer in a row we've pipped a player ready to sign with Newcastle, following Hugo Ekitike last summer. If Munoz can deliver similar performances, we'll be quite fortunate for that.

Mostly off the bench and mostly looking like shadow of her former self. I’d love to see at least one or two more years of Sam Kerr torturing goalkeepers, please.

Sentnor never made sense to me in KC, with all the various attacking players they had when they spent all that money to get her. I always assumed they would be making changes ahead of this season to clear that logjam but they went and got Bethune in the off season to make it even worse. Weird roster management choices in KC, and they’re floundering in the standings this season.
