I think I’d have taken one 2nd over two 3rds.

But fuck, it definitely is much less than I expected. His value was just in the toilet. What I want to know is, what was the next best offer Boston got for him when we got him? Like was his value this shitty even back then, or did his Leafs run under the spotlight just tank it?

If they can rehab him a bit, yeah. But 3rd pair d on expiring contracts typically go for ~3rd round picks at the deadline, like when the Leafs got Lybushkin (Carlo is about at that level). If one is higher on Carlo than that and can fool a team into thinking he's a second pair guy, then you can maybe squeeze out a late 1st.

But 2026 3rds may be better than 2027 2nds so if I'm the leafs I'll take it
