The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I came away from every Treliving draft annoyed and lacked any hope. I have no idea if any of these dudes pan out and don't really care because everyone is guessing, but this is a far better approach

Like is there even a way to watch 3rd division Russian junior league?

The stats are available and then you compare them to others and then cherry-pick some YouTube.ru highlights…while waiting for The Hockey News to offer you head intern of their new expanded analytics division

The scouts must love Chaykes. Got all these extra picks for them, went out of his way to grab another 6th to take a guy. Can’t ask for more as a scout. And get to go home early with no 7ths.

Yeah, it’s not like any of us know anything about any of these guys. But with Treliving, Lamoriello or Nonis drafts, you’d know just from a glance at their stats and their scouting profile that they were obviously players with 3rd/4th line (or pairing) upside at best. Tough to get excited about.

We have types. Smooth skating defenders and european goalies.
Like I don't blame the leafs for missing on late picks in the Tre years, but at least give yourself a chance. Compare this crop to his late picks for example

Nothing wrong with missing on these guys but skilless tree bitches in late rounds was such a dumb mandate by the GM.

The worst part imo is that it always felt like nepo baby projection from him. That's the type of player he was, and he valued that as an archetype because he was one of them.
