Though I will say, if they have any info on Nick Paul or legit reason to believe he's not completely cooked, what they did up front looks a lot better. Because this was a very good player 3 years ago and prior.

I just haven't seen any data to support that unfortunately. He's my x-factor up front because every other player they acquired has a very clear, extremely low ceiling. They are what they are.
 
Why does anyone care about O’Sullivan getting a new meaningless title again? It literally makes no difference to anything.
 
As for July 1, it looks like he made a conscious decision to sort of set a two year window to see what happens, given that Matty only has two left and McDavid is two away. Keeps max flexibility, while presumably adding guys they like and overpaying to get the shorter term.

Not what I would’ve done, but if that was the rationale, I can understand it. Much of the future hinges on next year at this time - will Matty have extended by then? If so, then business as usual. If not, there could be major changes, and flexibility is good in that situation.
 
Yeah that 2 year rationale thing is dumb and worrisome, in addition to the players he targeted.

But as I said, he gets a pass for me just for what he did with the d alone.
 
At that point, if you're determined to go with this dumbass 2 year thing, just sign John Carlson for 2 years at something dumb like 16m per year. Far better use of capital. But hey, nothing says go all-in like Colton Sissons and Duhaime I guess.
 
Past GMs wouldn’t have signed all those plugs in FA. Instead they would have fired all the draft picks out the door to get those exact same players at the deadline. Doesn’t make it smart, but at least it is not the dumbest approach for a change.
 
True. You’d think some of these guys could be ditched easily at the deadline for draft picks if we need to create room. Filling in all the depth now also means they can focus at the deadline on the only thing they should ever focus on at the deadline - adding elite talent.

Personally, I think it actually does make a difference whether or not you hire extremely dumb people, and whether or not you then promote those extremely dumb people into key roles in your organization.

But maybe that’s just me!

The players probably like him and relatable as a guy that just recently played pro hockey. It's not a huge deal for me, but I'm happy to point out that I find him to be a very dumb human being. And a piece of shit.

That’s a weird thing to say. It’s not like the dude’s an unknowable mystery box.

Before pizza boy hired him, he was a media talking head for years (including on Toronto sports radio). He was also very active (and generally extremely abrasive) about sharing his opinions on social media.
