Not sure why Dubas would do this unless Pittsburgh’s season is well and truly off the rails by the trade deadline. Pretty sure his mandate is to keep trying to win as long as Sid is still around.

I also really, truly, very much, 100% want this team to stop firing assets out of a cannon every trade deadline for olds/pending UFA’s.

If they want to sign Karlsson as a UFA in the summer of 2027, fine. But no thanks to paying a boatload of assets to rent him.
 
I don't think he's particularly great anymore. But it would be fun.

The thesis I guess is that if the Penguins are out of the playoffs and leafs are in, then Toronto is likely to go hard for the player. Which I sort of buy, but it depends on what the needs of the team are at that point. Offensive scoring depth may be a bigger need, but a little extra offense from the blue line could help too.
 
I have really badly wanted to see EK as a Leafs for years now. The time to get him was when Dubie got him, and I’m convinced he’d have grabbed him for us if he was our GM at the time. But they’re not trading him now, and would only consider it if they’re not making the postseason. I’d be pretty excited if we landed him.
 
I will push back on the "they're not trading him" narrative. Obviously it's not happening right now and even if they wanted to, leafs are entirely capped out thanks to $25m spent on fourth liners. This is obviously entirely contingent on the Penguins missing the playoffs and being sellers at the deadline. And the Leafs being the opposite of that.

I said not trading him now. They’re going to try to win for Sid. I don’t know how they were good last year, but if they do it again, they’ll walk him to ufa. If not, then he’s gone at the deadline.

You can only get him if Jonny Holmes, Koreaboy, etc comeback
 
I honestly don't like that shitty Marner's shitty aura is anywhere near the kid, and certainly don't like to see any physical contact.

Leafs should take out a restraining order on him to keep him away from our players.
