The Official 2026-27 Leafs Season Thread: New Regime, Who Dis?

I mean the easiest stuff is to attach a pick to trade Domi (if he'd waive the ntc) and/or Wood if needed. But that sucks and feels like an unforced error to even need to do that. Worth it for the right guy tho.

Still super annoying that we had to take that Wood contract when we were already taking Elvis. Still don't even know why they forced Elvis on us if presumably insurance is paying for him and he doesn't count on either team's cap.

Maybe Elvis’s contract isn’t insured, or isn’t insured in full?

The whole reason the Horton/Clarkson swap happened is Horton’s contract was uninsured and the BJ’s were on the hook for it, while Clarkson’s contract was insured.

Yup I remember that, and it’s because of that embarrassment they suffered that I’d think no other team would ever let themselves get caught with their pants down again, especially not the same team.

With the obvious exception, none of those rental D are even exciting and I’m not even sure any of the good ones will be available.

But I think if they move OEL in the deal they can easily take in a D making $6 mill ish long term. No idea who that is.

Jackets were over the cap after signing Fantili and couldn’t take on Knies without dumping salary/didn’t want to be in LTIR.

Leafs wanted the LTIR contract rather tha. A real cap hit to maintain the cap space of the difference between Knies/Marchenko and are going to be in LTIR with Domi anyway,

Elvis' contract means nothing.

Yeah. We were already in LTIR for this year with Domi, and it’s expiring so isn’t part of any “tagging” issues we may or may not be having.

The Wood contract is the irritating one. Slightly less irritating if he agrees to go on LTIR forever and fuck off, but still.

It means nothing, but if there was some advantage for them to put it on our team rather than theirs, plus dump Wood, plus take Andrae, plus Lorentz, plus whatever else I don't even remember. I know the points differential between March and Knies is not currently kind, but that spread isn't as wide as it looks, and it's really annoying to have taken a shitty 3 year contract on as part of it.

Are we sure Domi isn’t coming back this season? More and more talk regarding his status lately.
He seems gone, but there was talk about Elvis coming back at some point and then maybe becoming a problem or a trade chip (for whatever an inactive goalie all season would be worth).

About time, but there was probably a "process" that they had to follow to satisfy the league and union.

There also wasn’t really a need to do it until now. It wasn’t until the time/games limit on Joshua’s conditioning stint ran out that they had a need for Wood’s cap space.

Even moreso when Marchenko went down and we could suddenly use another NHL-calibre forward, or otherwise have to dress a forward group that includes both Lettieri & Groulx.
