and because he appears to be actually good defensively.
Ochai was a lights out shooter in college fwiw. It wouldn't be strange at all for him to shoot 40% in the NBA.
Also fwiw, both BPM and EPM have Ochai as better than Gradey right now.
Sure, but call me when Gradey is good. Not when he's good sometimes, but actually good. BPM has him as a 73rd percentile offensive player which is fine, but a 2nd percentile defensive player which would make a matador blush. BPM grades him as "decent starter or a solid 6 man" offensively, and...
Nah. Boston has 4-5 guys who can get their shot. Everyone else balances their starting lineup. GSW has Draymond and TJD in their starting lineup. OKC when healthy will probably have iHart & Dort. The wolves start Gobert and McDaniels. Cleveland starts Allen and Okoro, the Knicks start Hart...
I think Zeke is fan girling a bit too hard on Gradey. He had a really good stretch in late Oct-early Nov but has scored more than 16 once in the last 7 games and has shot 34% over that stretch. He's one high scoring game was shooting 7 for 20 against Miami but getting to the line a bunch. The...
Starting lineup doesn't lack scoring when it's healthy. It lacked spot up shooting but Ochai shooting 45% kind of sorts that, and he can defend the ball.
The bench though, definitely lacks scoring punch.
The difference is he's not stuck guarding the best wing players in the league and can focus on doing what he does well at this point. He's pretty close to terrible defensively man.
That's what I've been saying. 27-28 minutes a night, in the closing lineup when he's going well, way less pressure to defend against opposition top lineups. Great role for him at this age, way ahead of where most thought he would be at barely 21.
I don't see minutes for Battle when we're healthy though, that's my only problem. I'd rather he get 30 in the G League and be a good injury fill in rather than him just sit and rot

That's kind of my thought process. imo, that offensive guy off of the bench is more important than your 5th starter. Especially for us where we lack the offensive punch off the bench pretty badly.
Aside from Gradey's handful of games that were just too good to keep out of the starting lineup, I still think the kid is incomplete and would benefit from facing bench competition. That was a super shakey first look against an elite ball hawking defence and he couldn't put the ball of the...
