Tedeschi Trucks Band. My brother has known Derek since he was 13 years old. He is the nephew of Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks & that's who my brother met him through. Derek plays a mean slide. Definitely worth checking out.

As usual, Andy beat me to the punch and I didn't scroll down far enough before I posted. D'oh!

Jim

Also, is he related to the guy from Widespread Panic? I think their drummers name is also Trucks. I know their lead guitarist Jimmy Herring who is from Fayetteville. Oddly enough he was diagnosed with the exact same cancer I have exactly 2 months to the day I was diagnosed.

He is. Derek is Duane's(WSP drummer) older brother. Also, Jimmy Herring is Duane's father-in-law. That's a lot of musical talent in one extended family. I would love to hear their family jam sessions. F&^k Cancer, too!

For further Allman Brothers Band family offshoots, you can also check out Allman Betts Band featuring Duane Betts (Dickey's son) and Devon Allman (Greg's son) and Berry Duane Oakley (Berry's kid). They put out a couple of decent records a few years ago.

I still have PTSD from working on Beryl Rd for nearly 20 years. I never, EVER go to that part of town during Fair week anymore.
I'm over there every Wednesday for a PM for small building we have going up for NCSU on the old Brickhaven site.

I'm going around my ass to get there next week!

Good lord, Shohei Ohtani! Have yourself a historic night! He pitched 6 scoreless inning, striking out 10 batters in the process, and hit 3 dingers and one of them left Dodger Stadium and is probably orbiting our planet right now. The Dodger gamble Ohtani sure is paying off.

One of those HRs was a 467 bomb. Meanwhile he was on the mound throwing 100 MPH. Hard to apply 'records are meant to be broken' when there is currently only 1 baseball player who could possibly achieve what he did that night.

I would love to see a Ohtani v Vladdy Jr matchup for the World Series, but on the other hand, I would love to see Seattle finally get to the WS.

My previous opinion was that the most amazing one-game performance goes back to the '70s, when Rick Wise of the Cardinals hit two home runs against the Reds while throwing a no-hitter. This clearly eclipses that, especially given it was in the NLCS, and because it's not a career one-off: everyone knows Ohtani is capable of that.

The only great pitcher stat I've got to share was Dave McNally of the Baltimore Orioles hit a grand slam vs the Cincinnati Reds in Game 3 of the 1970 World Series. He is still the only pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball to hit a grand slam in the World Series. He also pitched a complete game surrenduring 9 hits. Orioles won 9-3 and went on to win the title. I was 9 years old when that happened and it sticks in my mind. Orders of magnitude below Ohtani, but still impressive to me.

OK, here we are with the World Series. It's Vladdy Jr v Ohtani. Vlad started the ALCS going 0-7 in the first two games. For the last four games, he went 10-19 with four walks, three double, three home runs. Even though he grew up in the DR, he was born in Canada when the great Vlad Sr was playing for Montreal.

Damn, I had forgotten that. 1970 was the year we had (4) 20 game winners on the staff. McNally, Pat Dobson, Mike Cuellar and some guy named Palmer.

I do remember Brooks, the human vacuum cleaner, at third base also.

I was almost 9 at the time.

Well I am headed home to the Motherland for game 2 Saturday night and I must admit the Ohtani vs Vladdy Jr matchup is going to be special. I lived in Canada in 92 and 93 for their last two titles they won and was lucky enough to get to the ALCS both years but never made the World Series! This one was too hard to pass up.
