2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Furman is a nice campus in a beautiful setting. And not too far from downtown to feel isolated. I can easily see why alums would be fond of the place.
We still go with her to Greenville Comicon most years. Greenville is a great city.

Also on that note, it’s shocking how many of the top seeds lost. State is the highest ranked team left at #15. Soccer is always a bit of a wild card but it’s rare that all the top seeds fail to move on.

The men are all over the place in college soccer, but this year is really pushing it with four complete underdogs. On the women's side it's generally more predictable.

If we have any James Burton guitar fans, tonight’s episode of American pickers they are at his Shreveport estate. I’m sure they will have some pretty cool shit to look at

Is that like Live from Daryl's Place? That was a great show.
You’ve never seen American pickers? They are ‘pickers’ in that they travel around the country and find antiques and cool finds. Old cars, parts, signs, gas pumps, etc…only been on for about 27 season on the history channel 😝

A few years back they found an old van on a random barn that Aerosmith used when they were nobodies touring around Boston. Aerosmith heard about it and contacted them and asked them to fix it up. Aerosmith used it in their residency concert in Vegas.

Anyway. If you like James Burton he’ll be on tonight’s episode

Philip Rivers back in the NFL with the Colts. I know they’re far down the roster for QBs, but he’s 44 years old and 5 years removed from his last game.

We were talking about Steve Cropper last week after he passed away, and James Burton is probably the other most influential guitar player of that era. His work with Elvis' band and as the musical force behind Ricky Nelson is bedrock stuff when it comes to the melding of country and rock. Pretty much every non-Blues based guitar riff you've ever heard owes a nod to Burton.

How about that Michigan football coach saga for some shit???
Yea. We’ve been hearing some disturbing stuff. This won’t end well. It was the worst kept secret for quite a while. Not sure what took them so long to ‘investigate’ it. It’s been a running joke in press rooms since the beginning of the season if not the summer

It’s gotta be something a lot worse than just playing around with a junior staff member.
You mean the getting fired part or the getting arrested part? The first part is technically about messing around with a staff member (although it's also about the AD losing faith that you'll ever get back to Nationally competitive), but the second part is apparently just regular old assault.

I obviously haven't seen it. I always thought it was a music show.

Thanks, it was the second part I didn’t see any info about.

After Tampa lost to Atlanta last night, this is something I never expected to type.

The Carolina Panthers control their own destiny. Win out and they win the division. They’re at NO on Sunday then home for Tampa and Seattle and finish in Tampa.

Yeah, controlling your own destiny while having two games out of three left against the team that's right behind you is ... woof. This Panthers team ain't really used to pressure, so it'll be interesting to see how they react.
