2020-21 Hurricanes Prospects and Wolves Thread

How long until typing “Wolves” doesn’t feel odd?

The season has already started in Sweden where Jesper Sellgren and Jack Drury are. I think the German, Finnish and Russian leagues are still in pre-season.

Scott Wheeler from The Athletic tweeted about an Elite Hockey U21 Showcase for OHL and OJHL players to get competitive games in before their seasons start. Blake Murray had 4g, 5a in 6 games. Jamieson Rees had 4g, 2a in 6 games. The leading scorer was 2020 draft eligible Ryan Tverberg with 16 points in 6 games. He’s a Harvard commit but with the state of college hockey in flux this year, you never know. His OHL rights are held by Hamilton. He’s listed at 5’10”, 168 lbs and is a right shot center.

A long time... I read that first line and thought I was in the Premier League thread and wondered 'why would that be odd? they weren't just promoted or anything'... :D

Beats the heck out of typing Wolverhampton Wanderers...

It’s like changing your password at work...it takes a few days to stop typing the old one.

We need to stylize it ... Wolfs, maybe. Or Wolps in honor of the immortal Wolpfack.

Well, with the chronic misspellings on this board, it’s only a matter of time until it morphs into something else. We only went back to Checkers from Cherkers because champions deserve to have their nickname spelled right.

Getting this prepared for whatever this coming season looks like. I will fill in the rest of the Canes 2020 draft picks tomorrow:

First off....
Players who have dropped off from last season:
Luke Martin
- graduated, unsigned by Canes, signed AHL contract with Wilkes-Barre
Matt Filipe - graduated, unsigned by Canes, signed NHL entry level deal with Boston
Max Zimmer - graduated, unsigned by Canes. UFA
Luke Stevens - graduated, unsigned by Canes, UFA
David Cotton - graduated, signed to entry level deal by Canes

SweHL, Lliga, KHL and related minor leagues are playing as is the QMJHL. Both the WHL and OHL are hoping to start their regular seasons in December. The USHL is planning to start play in November.

On the NCAA front.... Hockey East (Domenick Fensore and Cade Webber) has expressed a desire to play some sort of conference only schedule but has no dates yet. The Big 10 (Kevin Wall and Jack LaFontaine) claims their schedule will start in November. The Atlantic Hockey Association (Jacob Kucharski) has stated that they plan on trying to play some sort of conference only schedule, but have not scheduled anything yet.

I don't think anything is really for sure, but BU is listing Cade Webber on their current roster:

If you click on Webber's link it claims he is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences...I'm taking all that as he is there and committed (for now).

Patrik Puistola isn’t on Finland’s WJC roster for exhibition games against Sweden next month. That‘s probably an indication that he won’t make the final roster.

I saw a tweet over the weekend that Zion Nybeck is open to a loan to a club in Sweden’s 2nd division if he doesn’t get more ice time with HV71. He’s averaging about 7 minutes per game.

Hopefully they free Nybeck, because this entire season of development is going to be wasted with him playing limited minutes on a SweHL 4th line.

American International College and Atlantic Hockey announced their season schedule. The league begins play after Thanksgiving. They’ve spit into 5 team pods with Air Force as a swing team. They’ll play each team in the pod 5 times and then 2 games each against Air Force, a freak from the other pod and LIU, who joins as a full member next year.

Ryan Suzuki, Seth Jarvis and Jamieson Rees were invited to Canada’s WJC camp. A total of 46 players were invited.
