Panthers signed goalie Spencer Knight to his entry level contract. With them not having an AHL team this year because the Cherkers opted out, I doubt they burn a year of the contract and send him to Syracuse.

Spencer Knight's "signing age" is 20 (the age of the player on Sept 15 of the year the contract is signed), so there is no entry level slide for his contract. Whether or not a season is burned is strictly going to be determined by how the contract was structured.

If the contract doesn't start until the 21-22 season then Knight will have 3 years left on his deal. If it starts in the 20-21 season, then Florida might as well assign him somewhere to play because whether he does or not, one year of his entry level deal will be burned.

He cleared.
Hard to believe how much Gostibehere's stock has fallen. After wrapping up his ELC with a 65 point season and getting what seemed like a reasonable $4.5 million AAV deal, that guy has been straight up tepid.

Even though the Panthers officially announced it, CapFriendly still hasn’t updated.

Vancouver signed goalie Thatcher Demko to a 5 year/$25 million extension. No details on the salary/bonus structure. He would have been a RFA after the season and is finishing a 2 year/$2.1 million contract.

That Thatcher Demko contract is an awful overpay. He has made 62 appearances and has a .911 Sv%. 5x5? Seriously?!?!

I don't know. He's arguably been the second-best goalie--after Hellebuyck--in the North division this season. Certainly passes the eye test.

Wondering if Chuck Fletcher is still thinking the Flyers will "play their way out of it" after Buffalo's 6-1 win tonight.

Hey Chuck, here is a hint for you...your team sucks!!!!

The Flyers were arguably playing the best hockey in the East when the shutdown/pause happened last year, made no real structural changes and now can't stop freaking Buffalo from ravaging them for goals. Life ... it comes at you fast.

Schedule implications from that are ... tricky. Montreal is already 3-4 games played behind their Division and when Vancouver comes out of lockdown they will be in the same shape ... with pretty much a month left in the original schedule to play catchup.
Dreger says that he’s hearing it’s 8 players plus staff. That’s gonna last longer than 4/8.

The Canucks situation got worse. They’re up to 16 players and 3 coaches in the protocol and it’s the Brazil variant. The league is proceeding under the assumption that the entire team is infected. They may have to extend the North division beyond the May 10-14 open dates baked into the schedule. It’s possible that the other 3 divisions will start their playoffs before the North finishes their season.
