Former Cane Brett Sutter is leaving the Ontario Reign and signing with the newly relocated Calgary Wranglers. The Wranglers are the relocated Stockton Heat. It’s hard to keep track of which Sutter belongs to which father, but Flames coach Darryl is Brett’s father.

Sutter hasn’t had a NHL contract since the 2015-16 season, playing the last 6 seasons for the Reign on AHL contracts.
Forget keeping track of Sutters ... I'm just glad the Stockton Heat are no more, because I kept thinking it was an NBA G League team for some reason. Plus, keeping track of Sutters has always been impossible and only gets more so as they expand generationally.

Devils avoid arbitration with Miles Wood, and sign him to a 1 year/$3.2 million contract. That’s reduction from the $3.5 million actual he made in the last year of the 4 year/$11 million contract he came off.

Woof. Calgary ended up having to cash load right from the jump and paid Huberdeau a full million AAV more than Tkachuk is getting in Florida. To be fair, taxes chew up that difference so, cash in pocket, these are pretty much the same for the player. It's still $1 million higher AAV though, and for a player who is five years older. That's got to represent a "stick around in Calgary, please" premium.

But it’s about the same deal that Gadreau turned down. Huberdeau is 2 months older than Gadreau, he turned 29 last month. Regardless, the Flames will be paying him in his 37 year old season.

Yeah ... Huberdeau ain't Gadreau. Bigger, yes and also very productive ... but not the kind of guy who elevates everybody on his line when he gets going.
