2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

I think booing Rantanen is almost required. Unintentionally or not, he basically insulted the team and our fair city - and deserves the scorn we fans should give him. But I’m not sure he purposely played half-assed - even though he wasn’t good - I don’t see how that helps him. I lean toward Friedman’s analysis.

But seeing Rantanen’s bullseye in the urinals in the men’s room last night was near perfect.
Did anyone hit it?

We just won 2 out of 3 (you would think we have lost 6 in row given some of the sentiment here).
Beating the Sabres at home and then having to go to OT to beat Calgary at home is really not saying much. That is pretty middle of the road. That’s what I’d expect from a borderline playoff team.

Are the 4 wins that followed getting people off the ledge yet?

This team really can beat anyone in the Metro, especially in a first round series with home ice advantage. We seem to have a weight lifted off everyone's shoulders now that Mikko the Moper is gone.

Speaking of Mikko the Moper, his agent is trying to do some damage control. And failing. The bottom line is that he poorly represented his client, taking the same deal I Dallas that he was offered in Colorado and, if the reports are true, less than what the Canes offered.

Yes I think we all or most of us anyway agree. If they play like the last couple games they’re contenders. If they play like the games between Thanksgiving and the trade deadline they’re not. Hopefully they got whatever it was out of their system.

Yea, I know who I would believe!

Why didn’t he address why his customer moped around and gave a sub-half-assed effort for his tenure here?

Determining at which point he decided we wouldn’t sign here is irrelevant. We know it was early on since they offered and re rejected pretty early on. But if he doesn’t want to be here he should have spoken up when the Avs asked him instead of saying yes and he should have put in the effort while he was here. If I was any other team I wouldn’t want that king of player on my team. Kudos to GMET for getting us out of that pickle so elegantly.

Apparently, during his last meeting with Avs management, Rantanen indicated he would take less salary, but the Avs never got a number and didn’t believe it would be enough. Also, the Avs knew if the negotiations went beyond the deadline, Rantanen would have the upper hand.

Overall, well played by the Avs front office and this is one hell of a message to players and agents going forward.
