2024-25 Hurricanes Prospects and Minors Thread

Has anyone read that Athletic article on the Moldovian Giant Alexander Karmanov? He stands 7 feet tall off skates and weighs in 277 pounds at 17 years of age. Apparently the Canes had him in the dressing room last year for a friendly visit where he took some pretty funny pics next to Svech and Burns. He's headed to Brantford in the OHL this season and apparently has committed to Penn State the year after that...IMG_Karmanov.JPG

He can play in the AHL this season, right? Or does that eligibility rule change not kick in yet? If so, you'd assume that's where they want him. Playing against men, but not NHL men quite yet. He was obviously too good to be learning anything at the USHL level.

He was drafted in the CHL Import Draft. But unless he actually plays there, he should be eligible for the AHL, he’s already 18. Charlottetown is already in training camp and had their first preseason game, so it doesn’t appear the he’ll play there. So I guess he’s ticketed for Chicago?

The 'you cannot be assigned to the AHL' rules were just for players drafted from Canada Major juniors who were 18 or 19. Ryabkin should be able to play in Chicago if everyone decides to go that route. I don't know how ready he is for the AHL though.
