2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Not to be outdone by his buddy Swayman, Linus Ullmark signed a 4 year extension with Ottawa with a $8.25 million AAV. It has a full NMC for all 4 years. He's in the last year of a 4 year/$20 million contract.
 
Whoa. That's a lot of dosh for Ullmark, even allowing for Ottawa's need to over-pay to get guys to stick around.

The downgrade in uniforms is more than offset by the actual crowd in the stands in Salt Lake. Plus, how cool do those isolated sections right behind the goals look as a place to watch the game?

It was also a big night for Seattle and the NHL with Jessica Campbell working as the first female assistant coach in the history of the League. Dan Bylsma, Seattle's new coach, and Campbell worked together on the Cochella Valley's Firebirds of the AHL with great success that they're hoping to carry over to the NHL.

I thought Dundon was the young cool guy NHL owner wearing the casual threads everywhere until along comes Ryan Smith with his hat on backwards as his owner-in-tandem wife trots out in her white hot pants for the opening puck drop! The NHL has come a long way baby!!!
 
Another goalie getting paid. Elliotte Friedman says the Kraken are extending Joey Daccord, 5 years/$5 million AAV. He’s in the last year of a 2 year/$1.2 million AAV contract. Not bad for a guy that had never played more than 8 games in a season until last year. It also means that, between him and Grubauer, they have $10.9 million tied up in goalies the next 2 years.

Smith is a tech bro. And while that ain't always a good thing, there's no group that needs to be jolted into the 21st century more than the Board of Governors. Weird thing is, as much of a troglodyte as he can be, Bettman seems to know that. Dundon's twitchy modernism has been good for the league and Smith's energy will probably be good for a jolt as well.

Is it safe to say that playing hockey in Tampa on Saturday is not a good idea now and perhaps that game should be rescheduled for later in the year? The NHL should make a quick and smart decision on that but...it's the NHL.

The roof at Tropicana Field, where linemen had been staged, is gone. It’s been a bad week for Tropicana, the hotel/casino in Vegas was imploded yesterday.

Watched that Faceoff documentary. Edmonton didn’t come off too great - specifically McDavid and Driesitle. They both seem to have giant egos and “all they care about is winning. I call bs on that. All they want to do is get paid.

McD referred to what it’s like to compete with Gretzky. Um if all you care about is winning it’s 4-0 for 99. I’ll be surprised if they ever win a cup as currently structured. They might have the talent but for this era I’d take Sid in his prime over both of them together.
 
If you, as a player, are so concerned with winning championships, why would you alone account for over 10% of the entire team's cap space? Get your money and all that, but maybe look at the cap situation? There's a balance there.
 
So, is Jeff Skinner coaching the Oilers defense now? They sure played like it. To take a 6-0 beat down at the hands of the Jets on the home opener is shocking.

True ... and a big part of that was because Campbell was barfing all over his boots in net. The last thing that team needs is a repeat performance in net. Because that D is only gonna give their netminder so much cover. Whoever they have in net needs to be able to make some stops.
