2024 NHL Playoffs Thread

Of course not, that’s because he’ll be 31 allowing him to look for an 8-yr retirement contract.

And he will almost guaranteed sign w Leafs or a Cdn team because both his contracts post ELC have been heavy bonus structured for which he maximizes on take home in a Cdn market & which no US team can match unless they pay anywhere from $3M -$4M more per year which won’t happen since he’s already close to max cap % (at 15.5%)
you are literally the only person who claims we have advantages signing people due to the bonus aspect

The only advantage Cdn markets have at their disposal, is the ability to offer lucrative bonus structured contracts for US Resident players, especially those who call their home in no tax states, because of the clause introduced in the revision of US / Canada tax treaty, implemented for Matthews’ last contract after heavy lobbying by Cdn teams & NHL

It’s also why Huberdeau instantly signed the massive deal offered by Cgy - he lives in Ft Lauderdale, and w Alberta being lowest provincial taxes in Canada, combined with very heavily bonus structured contract it was a no brainer

Now if you try and screw the system, as Tavares has done by not meeting US residency status per the treaty, of 6-months + 1-day physical presence in US per calendar year, US / Canada tax treaty becomes void and Revenue Canada will come calling for back taxes…

I think I picked Rangers in 6 so that would benefit me,,,

remember the old days when teams knew how to close out at home, ah the memories
Because home ice was an actual advantage back when teams played in bespoke arenas like the Forum or Boston Garden. Nowadays they're all generic, all the exact same, and teams rarely get to practice in them to learn their quirks (not that the new generation of arenas have any)

Addiction's a motherfucker.

Second year in a row that he's going to be a big factor why his team doesn't advance further.

Wouldn't surprise me if his contract is terminated within the next 14 months.
Meh. He's probably a Russian fascist and homophobe. Kick him out so Putin can send him to die on the steppe.

He gone

If they want to, they could. There's precedent from earlier this season when you had Adam Ruzicka posting an Instagram video with a vial of cocaine.

But Ruzicka's an easy player to scapegoat, he's a very replaceable player. Nichushkin's actually really good, so they might not want to, but... I think the second his suspension's done, they're terminating his contract.

As mediocre as KK turned out, he’s still right up there as one of the best centers from his draft class. The NHL draft has to be one of the most overrated things in pro sports with too many teams chasing too little talent
Yes but at 3? With Tkachuk and Quinn sitting there?

Big blow because he was priced right in their salary structure
