When my brother came to visit back in March he bought an Oilers jersey with Perry's name and number on it just to piss off his Leafs fan neighbors. He wears it whenever he walks his dogs.

They're all still butthurt about 2021.

Why the Make Beliefs never found a way to bring Perry into their lineup remains a mystery to me…. growing up watching MLB there was a player by the name of Lonnie Smith who every year for something to the effect of 8-10 years straight found himself on a playoff team, many of them went far - hence why GMs wanted that rabbits foot on their side.

Perry is that NHL rabbits foot…

I HATED Lonnie Smith. Expos killer.

But yeah, it seems like every year the Leafs are in search of something, whether it's toughness or leadership. But they never get the right guys. They want leadership but instead of a proven winner like Perry, they get players who got run out of town for lacking leadership qualities. Tavares never won shit with the Islanders. Not a single playoff appearance. As soon as he left the Isles went to the conference finals while the Leafs, Tavares' new team, flamed out in the first round again.

They got Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau for "leadership", two guys who also never won shit and were the reason for why their teams didn't win. Thornton was run out of Boston because he couldn't cut it in the playoffs. Marleau had the C ripped off his jersey because the Sharks realized that scoring goals doesn't mean you can lead. And Spezza? What the fuck did he ever win? These aren't leaders. They don't know how to win because they never have.

Then they got guys like Simmonds and Reaves for toughness. Did either of these washed-up clowns make the Leafs tougher to play against? They were both so horrible they couldn't be dressed for playoff games. They sure as shit never made Marner into any less of a pussy than he already was.

Well this is the fatal flaw of the Leafs, isn't it? Replacing the coach without addressing the country club in the dressing room is the deck chairs on the Titanic analogy.

It isn't just that they need to go. They need to go in part because they were afforded way too much latitude. The fact that there are some select individual players in that dressing room (and anyone could guess which ones with a high degree of accuracy) who you, as a coach, are not allowed to question, discipline, or in any way challenge, is an open secret which more than one member of the local media has reported. Cows, sacred or otherwise, produce lots and lots of shit. You can hire a new coach to muck out the room, but until you move the cows out, the shit will just keep piling up.

We weren't a Lehkonen away from a Cup. People cried about losing Eller and we replaced him with Lehkonen. These players get drafted by the scores in every draft. They're as common as dirt. Not one of them is worth crying over
