The Wolves roster is set. Among the forwards, Pavlychev, Turcotte, Biondi and Vierling are on AHL contracts. For the dmen it’s Friend and Bayreuther. All 3 goalies are on the roster. For now, the Gargoyles don’t have any players with NHL contracts on their roster. The Wolves season starts tomorrow, the Gargoyles start next Friday.

Bayreuther was AWFUL in pre season. Not even close to NHL standard. No clue why they would sign that guy. Friend too, now that I took a look. He's a guy who's been in Europe but was otherwise sort of settled at the ECHL level.

They’re carrying 27 on the roster. Friend is on a 2 way contract so he could be shipped to Greensboro. I was wrong about Bayreuther, he’s on a NHL contract at $140k in the AHL with a $150k guarantee.

The scouting let Carolina down on Bayreuther. It looks like he's never played anything other than a hard-core trapping system so maybe it's just an adjustment issue but he was a deeply confused looking pylon in pre season

Chicago Wolves last week:

Oct 11 @Iowa W 4-1 Miftakhov with the win. Fensore, Unger Sorum, Nikita Pavlychev and Nadeau with the goals.

Games this coming week: Sat/Sun v. Rockford

Ruslan Khazheyev was assigned to Greensboro so Quapp and Miftanhov are manning the goal in Chicago. Tall order for Quapp to make his North American debut in the AHL but I suspect he’ll play this weekend.

Interesting that Quapp has really never showed anything at all above the German 2nd division yet apparently he's impressing enough to get the No 2 gig in Chicago. Maybe is comes down to wanting to give both Miftakhov and Khazheyev a lot of games and to do that, they need to be on different teams. Quapp is a longer term project, so it doesn't really matter if he plays once a week. Those other two need to play more. Miftakhov to prove he belongs in the North American game at all and Khazheyev to continue to develop at a challenging level. Whenever they can slip Bussi down a level it will all change anyway.

Side note ... could we start a petition that they start drafting goalies with easier names? These guys are killing my backspace key

Speaking of names...Johnny Sideburns was working the Leafs-Red Wings game yesterday for Prime and he commented along the same lines about easier names...the Red Wings having three guys out there on the same team with abbreviated long last names...Sandin-Pelikka, Bernard-Docker and Brandsegg-Nygaard...those three do not just roll off the tongue during play by play when they pass to each other!

I remember Minter fake whining on Twitter the day the Canes drafted Eetu Luostarinen and Eetu Makiniemi.

To be fair to all involved ... I'm just complaining about spelling here. I know I get on you guys with your acronyms for Tulsky and Brind'Amour, but I'm cutting all sorts of slack for anybody who wants to just chuck a nickname at 90% of Carolina's Russian prospects. There's a reason I refer to Luostarinen as Louie 90% of the time.

You’re lucky I can still spell Kevin without autocorrect help.
