2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

The NHL has promoted a referee and linesman to full time NHL status. Jordan Samuels-Thomas was promoted to full time referee and Ryan Jackson to full time linesman. Jackson’s father Dave is ABCs rules expert.

Linesman Derek Nansen retired as did referee Ghislain who moved to the German Elite League. Hebert worked more than 1,000 regular season games but never worked the playoffs. Good riddance.

The ref pool got appreciably better simply by getting rid of Hebert. I don't care if his replacement is the Geico walrus goalie ... my statement would remain the same.

The whole "solution" to that "problem" makes my head throb. I fail to see why they couldn't just install a playoff cap and call it a day.

Capology aside, if his injury was that serious, take the year off. Let your body heal.

Utah put goalie Connor Ingram on waivers. It’s not surprising, they filled their backup spot while he was in treatment. But good on them waiving him early enough so he has time to catch on elsewhere with a decent amount of camp time left.

Did they just do that today? I could have sworn I saw something about this last week.

Checks ... and yes. Formally placed on waivers today. I guess the report I saw earlier was that they intended to put him on waivers, or agreed that they would do so. But yeah, probably good for him to get a fresh start somewhere else. He's capable of being a very good goalie when he's physically and mentally healthy.

Looks like Barkov might have sustained a fairly serious leg injury in Floridas first “full” practice today. He was helped off the ice. Maurice said they’d know more tomorrow

And Tkachuk is out until at least December.

Pretty good chance that Florida will be in chugging along mode for a good chunk of the season anyway, so I'd guess they shut Barkov down until he's healthy.

Jamie Benn had surgery to repair a collapsed lung, suffered in the Stars game against the Wild on Tuesday. He had signed a 1 year contract with a $1 million base with $500,000 in bonuses for reaching 20, 30, 50 and 60 games played. That essentially rules him out for all of October, a mint that Dallas plays 11 games. Depending on how he recovers, getting to 60 might be a stretch.

Well, they should probably do something. Stolarz ain't exactly been a picture of health and Reimer, while game, is officially ancient. Otherwise they have Dennis Hildeby who kind of sucked in spot duty last year and a couple of Russian guys who were meh to bad in the AHL. I'd think Ingram would be a nice 2/3 option.

Barkov had knee surgery today. No disclosure on wither it’s a ACL or something else and we probably won’t know more for 24-48 hours. But it could be a season ender.

What a blow to the Panthers, saw a clip of the injury, looked ugly and gruesome the way his knee folded back.

Reporters are hinting at a long recovery ... maybe the whole season. We'll see. If there's one guy who's absence could derail that Florida train it's Barkov. And maybe Bob.
