2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Panarin had them over a barrel, but that is a pretty poor return for the Rangers, IMO - and I couldn't be happier.
I’m glad he ended up out west. Would be surprised if this is what is needed to get the kings to the big dance. Good riddance Canes killer!

How the actual hell wasn’t that a major? He left his feet and did the chicken wing straight into a guy’s head. Yeah, he was hitting the brakes, but only to gather himself to elevate into McAvoy’s brainpan.

Congrats Rangers! You deserve every superstar you trade screwing up your return. Love it!

That said, Liam Greentree is a legit prospect. Big winger, LA's 1st round pick in 2024 draft. Playing his 19 year old season (he turned 20 on January 1st) for Windsor in the OHL. Really the equivalent of getting a late 1st round pick, which is all the Rangers could really have hoped for if Panerin was forcing a trade to just 1 team.

That makes the Canes trade of Rantanen for 2 1sts 2 3rds and Logan Stankoven look even better.
I like Greentree a lot. Feisty, salty winger who produces consistently and who had a massive Mem Cup campaign last year. No idea what he’s doing taking an over-age year in junior, but whatever. He’s a late first rounder with middle of the round talent and decent size. Good combo. That said, they just moved a top line winger who is old but still productive for what amounts to a 1st, a 3rd and a 4th in 2 years. That’s … not good. Even when you allow for only having one team to negotiate with, that’s not good. You couldn’t extract a 2nd rounder this year in a good depth draft? The Kings have two of them.

Also, I’m gald Carolina didn’t end up in the Bread Man business. The two years at $11 mil is a lot to absorb. He’s still very good, but more in the $8-9 mil range because he’s no longer a threat to rack up 90-100 points like he used to be. Having his playmaking would never be a bad thing, but I’d prefer that if the Canes over-spend that they do so on a center or a winger with size.

The Devils and Blues snuck one in under the wire too. The Devils get Nick Bjugstad, the Blues get minor league center Thomas Boreleau and a conditional 2026 4th rounder.

Bjugstad is quality depth and God knows the Devils needs that, but I have to wonder what Fitzgerald is playing at throwing resources at a 33 year old bottom six forward when his team is looking increasingly like they’ll miss the playoffs. This doesn’t help in that regard at all, so why aren’t you collecting assets instead of spending them?

Garrett Rank. He’s a helluva amateur golfer. He won the Canadian Mid-Amateur a bunch of times and qualified for at least 1 US Open. But he’s really bad at his primary job.
One of the best functionally blind amateur golfers in Canada. But he is an absolutely AWFUL ref.

Ridiculous! The referees botched that penalty by not calling a major and reviewing it. Then the league makes it worse by doing nothing to punish Vilmanis' flying elbow after suspending Rust 3 games for his chicken wing.

Consistently inconsistent. Sounds like the NHL.

Embarrassing at every turn, the bar somehow gets lowered by the day…best game/worst league.
