What the Habs might need above all, at least when it comes to drafting...
They need a better drafting philosophy outside of the first round beyond just "we're looking for unicorns." They spend a lot of picks on players nobody's ever heard of or were basically just considered undraftable.
Let's draft Florian Xhekaj - totally not because of his last name, obviously, lol! - because he's a unicorn. Let's draft this Latvian goalie that our scout saw in an obscure U18 tournament for a handful of games. Let's draft Ben Merill because he has the profile of a fourth line player, and uh, well he doesn't actually know how to play hockey yet, but he's got time to figure that out at Harvard.
