24-25 Habs Preseason

he would have fit in very well with Guy

Saying "Well Roy was a 5th round pick, what'd you expect??" is willingly choosing to close your eyes to the context asto why he was a 5th round pick.

In his draft year, he was ranked as early as a late 1st / early 2nd, to a late 2nd / early 3rd. Most people who follow the draft were surprised that he dropped to the 5th round and he's greatly outplayed where he was selected in the draft.

Roy, and this is documented from his days in Junior, was always someone who coasted on his talent. He was the first overall pick in the Q draft and didn't seem to put maximum effort, until his final two Junior years. He got a little bit of success and, assuming the report that he has off ice issues are true, that trend from Junior has continued. If the reason is true, then I'm all for it.

Okay . . . but 5th round is still 5th round. He’s not “all that,” as they say. Trevor Connolly, for example, with far more serious off-ice issues, still went 19OA. Just saying.

He’ll be fine.
Roy didn’t realize the guy he needed to impress was repeatedly kicked in the teeth till he earned a regular NHL gig which he turned into a HOF career.

Not pulling a fast one on those who understand the concept of possessing elite hunger …

moral of the story, take a crap in a teammate's bag rather chasing tail

Nah moral is off and ce issues matters less than on ice issues. 35 points in 35 games in his draft year, coupled with injuries, didn’t do him any favors. Then he exploded for 119 points in 66 games, plus 23 in 11 playoffs games after the draft.
