Are we too harsh with our D?

I was talking with a friend who is long time a hockey fan and Wings fan and knows his shit.
I was non stop complaining about our D and he was telling me, come on man. Your D is just fine. You are expecting an error free game?
He was telling me your top 4 are at worst top 10 in the league 🙄🙄🙄

I don't agree at all...

We watch this team everyday, people from outside look at it like, there is Weber, there is Petry. Wow great, then you have guy like Eddy who won the cup and Chiarot who can play against top lines and all 4 are big guys. 3 can play physical game.. That is most people impression
 
Weber is done as a top pairing dman. He would be far better suited as a 2nd pairing guy at this point. 18-19 minutes a night and he'd probably be a lot more effective. Chiarot too. Hell, he'd be a better 3rd pairing guy.

His salary cap though is of a top pairing dman though, even when he's making 1M in a couple of years. We don't exactly have a replacement for him.

Petry is a 2/3 , Weber is a 2/3

The rest are 5/6/7 D
 
All of Petry, Weber, Edmundson and Chiarot are fine on their own, i just don't really like having all 4 dressed up and no one else on the bottom pair that can move the puck.

Chiarot gets a lot of slack on this board but man, the guy works his ass off every shift. He's going to make some mistakes by playing that much but he's giving all he has out there and i respect him for that.

I agree on Chiarot....for his cap hit, he’s been more than fine.
 
He's been better than Weber.
