Around the League 2019-2020 Edition

For all the league’s posturing about racial equality during the playoffs, I think we all know that most NHLers are about as deep as a puddle when it comes to how much they’re aware of or care about social issues.

I’d also be willing to bet that a majority of the NHL’s players, owners and management/coaches are Trump supporters.
The only MAGA guy I know of is Barry Trotz, but that was a couple years back. Maybe he changed his mind! I'd guess most other coaches (old white, rich men) are likely to be Trumpers.

Most players are dumb meat heads who don't care about politics because the social issues don't really impact them, but the ones that do? Likely Trumpers because they most likely grew up rich and white and were obviously influenced by their parents. The demographic is just very very Republican... Which is fine, but being a MAGA guy is another story all together. I cut people who support him out of my life.

The wokest league of them all, the NBA, has owners that overwhelmingly support Trump. They just know not to say so when the cameras are rolling.

It's one of the many reasons I couldn't give less of a **** if I tried about these ''progressive'' movements in sports. They're bullshit.

Just take down the site, man. Free us from this addiction. Let us get back to being productive members of society who can properly focus on their careers, families, and friends without politics, xgf, and corsi getting in the way. Let Zeke get back to doing the lord’s work and concentrate on fighting with people on Twitter all day. Just let us get back to being us already.

You laugh but I literally had to forcibly stop myself from posting in the politics thread. Sometimes you just can’t help yourself.

Amazing how the sport popularized by poor farm kids flinging frozen poo pucks at each other has become, next to golf, the worlds preeminent elitist sport.

You need a family income of 300k / year minimum to comfortably put a kid through competitive hockey now.

That post was maybe the least jokey thing I’ve ever said here.

I would actually love it if you took it down and set us free.

Ya, they need to figure it out before it becomes polo or fox hunting or yacht racing or whatever the **** else rich people do.

Canada, in particular, should have an interest. Our competitive advantage has always been the sheer number of kids who play the game.

I submit Tennis is more expensive than both to get your kid to the pros. It is unbelievably expensive.

Can't control yourself?

Yeah, that was my point about politics. I couldn't control myself.

Do what you must to control yourself.

As someone who played pro (1 pro event) and captained a D1 team i can confirm. The guys i knew who were played 10+ international events per year either had sponsorships, rich parents or both. Just regular training is 20k per year before equipment, tournaments, travel, private coaching and anything else

Money aside its the commitment to the training. Some of these kids are training 5 days a week on and off the ice

It really pigeon holes them and doesn't allow them to experience other activities without burning them out
