“We don’t like surprises,” said Bettman. “The Bill Peters’ situation was a complete surprise. Going forward, our clubs are on notice that if they become aware of an incident of conduct of NHL personnel on or off the ice that is clearly inappropriate, unlawful or demonstratively abusive, or that may violate league policies, we in the league office — Bill Daly or me — must be immediately advised.
“There will be zero tolerance for any failure to notify us. In the event of failure to notify us, the club and the individuals involved can expect severe discipline.”
pretty sure I read in the SN article that this was already on their radar before yesterday, and it is not player abuse related.Likely has something to do with this:
All this happening at once, smells like a fish on a hot dock imo.
Yeah, that interview isn't the thing that got him canned. Dreger was reporting last night that whatever the incident was, it "left them no choice" but to fire the man. That interview is cringe-inducing, but not to that point. I feel like it's better just to wait until the incident that actually caused Montgomery to be fired is identified to make any judgements on the matter.Just listened to the interview and there's nothing there. Unless he was deemed to be drunk on air, which I don't think is the case. Funny that this still hasn't leaked, nobody has any idea why he was let go.
