Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I don't think a flat cap fundamentally changes anything. The core is still Matthews, Tavares, Marner, Nylander & Rielly, and they'll mix and match around those guys as best they can to build a winning team.

If anyone needs to go, it'll be someone (or multiple players) from the $3M club---Kerfoot, Johnsson, Kapanen. Ceci's obviously going to go too.

What would happen there if we told them to take half of Manson's caphit too, but then take Kesler's $6.9m in dead money (more than the $6.2m they retained) and have him on LTIR the next 3yrs? Does that make sense and give us more capspace or am I just tired?

well that's just not true.

we were supposed to be the first wave of the 8 figure star deal which was to become more commonplace with a rising cap. we have 3 of them..don't think anyone else does.

then somebody ate the wrong bat, and here we are.

if the cap is flat for several seasons ahead, that makes things incredibly more difficult with half the cap tied up in 4 guys(none of whom is a defenceman or goalie). that percentage was supposed to decline steeply with time -- now that isn't going to happen.

methinks Mitch Marner and his dad may have written their ticket out of Toronto with that holdout. He can be moved anywhere in the first 3 years of his deal. Tavares can't. Matthews is the franchise, and Nylander's deal is actually looking very good...he could well be an 8 or more million dollar player on a bargain if he keeps this level up.

Not to look too far ahead...but if Robertson turns out to be legit, Dubas is going to be awfully tempted to rebalance things a bit. That is the new reality of what we're facing.

How can they set a flat cap if revenues probably drop 20% especially in many US cities

We probably wont see venues filled for 2 more years , thats multi millions lost at the gate /concessions/suites etc...

The NFL with their massive revenue stream has sources indicating their cap might drop 50 mil with no fans in the stands

I dont see how the NHL cant be affected if this scenario plays out

They'll have to agree to some kind of way to stagger the losses from the 'rona season, one of which is agreeing to keep the cap flat for several seasons. For example, there was a proposal for guys to defer some of their salary till later.

The big TV money is still coming. That's how they can keep the cap flat WE are also going to see more ads than ever at these games this summer.

JFC what is going on there. Thats messed up

There's something off about this whole situation. His employer (TSN) declined to make any comment about this when asked, and there's also been zero reaction on social media from any of his TSN co-workers.

The Toronto Police also made this statement to the media:

"At this moment, the Toronto Police Department does not have a report of a missing infant pertaining to Dan O'Toole. There also has been no amber alert issued pertaining to this inquiry."
