Maybe Jack learns to smile again and catches a heater in the 2nd half? They might sneak in, but they're not actually good. Shit, if I had to rank them against the eastern bubble teams, they would be scrapping it out at the bottom of that pile...they could easily be the 12th-13th best team in the east if they were over here.

Also...their 2 best players are powerplay merchants. 5v5 is where you win games imo.

His track record in Detroit during the cap era was brutal. All of the red flags were glowing, but Edmonton is the ultimate old boys club.
Anything that an executive (or coach) achieved before the salary cap just doesn't matter. In fact, I'd suggest that it's possibly a negative because it likely reinforced ideas in their mind that can't work in a capped system.

Holland’s lengthy track record since the salary cap was instituted made the way his tenure in Edmonton has gone in Edmonton just about the most predictable thing ever.
And yeah, if you were a successful GM pre-cap and have been a disaster since, that should be a great big waving red flag.

I can't really think of anything he's done there other than hand out the most term/$ to the obvious guy on the market. Nothing really clever/good value/bargain find. Just a total lack of imagination.
