Sounds like Horvat wouldn't sign, so they went with the guy they could actually sign, even though it makes no sense to sign him unless they're going to just deal him for a better return now that he's not a rental.

5.5 isn't bad for him per se, but when sweet daddy regression gets home I don't think he's going to be particularly good either. Basically, it's real likely that he's going to be a 20 goal 50 pt looking guy when the opportunity to trade him comes around again and they'll have missed the "1st +" train.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they deal him now and that that was part of the understanding in getting him to sign.

A team will pay more for him now, and the Nucks won't even have to pay his raise next year.
