The center thing should carry a 1m premium but... If Pettersson isn't a center then ok I take back my Al Bundy slander.

Willy has been lights out since he signed the contract too after a brief slump. This sure feels like the new Willy. About 500k-1m more rich than I would have wanted but not quite a disaster.

Pettersson is a centre, and a good one. Vancouver has gone their version of super line at times this year (Pettersson-Miller-Boeser), which Zeke is interpreting as Pettersson "playing wing a lot"
 
Also, he's played wing a lot.

Contrasted with Miller, who has stayed at C, even though he's questionable as a C.

Willy is 2 years older too. Contract expires at 36 as opposed to 34. Yeah I'd put EP at about $1m more than Willy. I think Dom has it at that roughly too. Willy slight overpay, EP slight underpay.
 
Seriously though, if Tocchet is deploying him there, sure whatever. It's not because he can't play centre though or isn't good at the position. He's elite or damn close offensively and decent enough 2-way

The real victory by Vancouver here isn't the cap hit, it's the fact they put big pressure on their superstar and he caved and signed.
The played this very well.

Speaking of, how much credit does Tocchet deserve for this outlier season?

Marner: +16 (+15 off +1 def)
Petersson: +15 (+16 off -1 def)
Willy: +15 (+16 off -1 def)

And that’s with Marner having a down year until recently. Heading into the year Marner was a +21. He’s significantly better.
 
One of EPs selling points has always been that he's good defensively. Now I don't know if he's actually as good as they say but I probably wouldn't call him shit.
