When did I argue anything like that?

This is basic, diligent shit.

You don't dump a guy who still got you 30 goals in an off year for no reason until you have a reason. It's fine and dandy to say that he's not providing $11M of value, but you also aren't anywhere near a position yet where you could say we've trashed the junk on the roster, created $25M to spend, have successfully spent it all on good shit, and now have the opportunity to get more good shit that's even better than what Tavares brings and need his cap hit for that.

Just because a team has $40M to spend on UFAs doesn't mean they're actually going to get all the UFAs they want to all sign on.

Multiple people here have given a "reason". You chose to ignore them and instead invent an argument that money can't be better spent elsewhere. Even though it has been proven and discussed at lengths that it can.

Your emotional attachment to Tavares is rotting your brain.

The reason is a value proposition that exists only in theory.

No one is in any position to say that in reality, you could spend $25M on UFAs and net trade adds and then still have another $11M of guys who you could definitely get that would be better than having Tavares. This is a fact. You don't know who's going to sign, you don't even know who's going to make it to UFA yet.

If you want to have a trade lined up to dump him at zero cost on Utah, and then pull the trigger if some great opportunity comes along, that's one thing. If you want to dump him in the hopes that some great opportunity comes along, whether it actually does or doesn't, that is the approach of a rotted brain.

There is a world where Montour, Skjei, Pesce Debrusk, and others extend with their current teams, or that only a couple of the ones we even want make it to market and their prices get driven up beyond anything reasonable. Or that trades for a top player would cost us Knies, Robbie, Lilly, etc. Or that really good players aren't even made available, or that our competition outbids us.

Dumping a really good player for fun and then figuring it out later is stupid. This isn't some shitty Kampf or Reaves that you dump because they suck.

Im not sure there is a world where the Leafs dump Tavares and spend 11M on worse value.

I dont think that's possible.
 
Also, and im not trolling here, but is your contention that 25M is the sweet spot for what the team needs to fix their issues and if they dump 11M of JT 36M might be too much cause FA might stay where they are and that extra 11M is spent on worse players than JT because Brad is a dumb dumb?

I didn't read beyond this. He's a Tavares fanboy. That's it. That's his contention. Stop trying to solve the mystery. It's not that complicated
 
to be fair i see his point. im very scared of what tre will do with 25m. im terrified with what he would do with 36m to spend. that said you trade tavares andd sign lindholm you already improve and save 3-4 million
