Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Blueline and net were the larger issues and though I'm not overwhelmed by the work done to improve both, I'm almost whelmed by it.

It was not a disaster. It could have been better but oh wow it could have been way, way worse.

It was pretty dubas-like tbh. The process didn't seem to change much. Not a disaster, balance sheet will be kept clean, but you wish he did a bit more to get this team to the next level.
I think the biggest difference between Pizza Shoes and The Dubas Family is that Dubie is a massive star fucker. He loves the big name adds, and that makes it pretty fun to be a fan when every year you have some interesting names coming in. I have exactly zero doubt that if he was managing our offseason, we'd have seen Montour, Skjei, Debrusk type signings, and maybe Dubois or Chychrun type trades. He just loves to get the name guys.

Meanwhile, the current guy is more of a bargain basement type shopper, looking for quieter deals with the lesser names. The sad irony is that he tends to overpay those names, but he seems to always be searching for value and minimization of risk. I'm kinda surprised that he went from 1 year show me dude to multi-year old guy signing dude in just one season, but he paid less and fit them in, and I think that's his thing. He's not the type to grab one big expensive guy and one cheapie bargain guy. He wants to get two average guys instead. So, we likely never see anything flashy from him, just this workmanlike approach that results in changes along the edges unless and until he's forced.

It's the main reason why I don't think he's actively pushing to move Marner. No doubt he's taken calls with all the noise surrounding the situation, but I don't think he's seriously entertaining anything, and likely has PTSD from the Tkachuk trade. Same reason I don't think he wants to make waves with Tavares with only one year left on the deal. Both of which is the right move imo, to properly see what the group, with improvements, can do under a new coach who hopefully isn't as much of a moron as the last one.

Are you deliberately leaving Tarasenko there? Unclear since you removed Bertuzzi.

such a weird contract for Lou to sign tbh. the dude was russian, slow, and not particularly tough. never really fit any of Lou's MOs.

He was a cautionary tale for me on over valuing d who play on a super elite pp1. Guy got spoonfed 36 points in his first year and never really looked good doing it.

Of course his nerdies were shit and that should have been enough to stop them from signing the contract. But it wasn't!
