In fairness though these two don't need a reason to hate on the Leafsone mini win streak for the fucking habs and we get this shit.
This exactly. The very definition of insanity.88 and 16 would have fetched the moon that summer after the Habs playoff mess
Multiple years of cost control and a NMC that didnt kick in
My issue with the Leafs playoff failure is not just losing but never displaying that extra gear to show you belong with other teams for the cup
Still waiting for that come to Jesus moment like CMD , Makar , Nate , etc.....
Poor performances from your core group when you needed them in series deciding games especially games 5-7
It was, but that actually worked to the Leafs' advantage. In the 2 Covid seasons they drew 2 grossly overmatched teams in Columbus and the Habs. They should have annihilated both of them without breaking a sweat. It was also abnormal due to covid. A little context goes a long way.
eh, that's not it.It's only tired because the Leafs refuse to accept the reality that they will never win with this core.

Right. It's also the failure and refusal of the Leafs fanbase to accept reality.eh, that's not it.
And what are the odds that this happens with the same core group that has never done it for the last 7 years?I can't argue with that.
They gotta take the game by the nuts and squeeze hard this time around, they simply have to.
it's been far too long since we've seen anything like that from the Leafs in the playoffs.

Many were good with futures and going shopping with the savings, or getting two dimes and a nickel for a quarter type deals. If I recall correctly people wanted to trade Marner but not for garbage. If value wasn't available then no trade. Context.
I havent checked any stats but in the last 7 playoff years have any superstars in the caliber of 16 and 34 underperformed as muchI can't argue with that.

except Tavarestrading any of them was always a dumbass idea obviously.
The Bolts kept everyone because the season before Columbus beat them, the Lightning went to the Conference Finals. And in the following 3 seasons they won the Cup twice and lost in the finals. But the Leafs didn't just start humiliating themselves in the first round in the Columbus series. They had already established a pattern of failure which started before and continues to this day.TB also got annihilated in the most embarrassing series (ever?) when CBJ swept them out.
They didn't go trading Kucherov and Hedman because of it. In fact, they kept everyone and kept trying to add.
That's what smart teams do. They don't dump elite players to make rival fanbases happy by validating their dumb feelings. They keep their great players and keep trying to find the right mix of roster, opportunity, and luck.
That's why I've never been on board with trading any of our big guys. After the last chokejob, almost everyone here except maybe three or four of us wanted Marner gone. Now look how reactionary and stupid that would have been given how things are playing out.
