Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Who is worth anything over there though? Crosby of course, Ravello yeah...Gino with another year at 6.1, maybe? Rust with retention maybe?
Karlsson at 50% retention brings him to $5m. I take that gamble for two seasons after this one. Get him back into a hockey market and he'll be worth that. Anything less than the 50% and I balk.

I also think Gino has gas left in the tank, especially in the playoffs.

Crosby should come to his childhood team 🙂

IF Crosby decides to help the team, the Avs will likely be the only destination

Gino and Karlsson are ones Im kicking tires on if retention is on the table

Doubt you'll get retention on Gino, his cap hit isn't that high.

He's pretty cooked though. I wouldn't want him at 6.1 for next year. Maybe if you're a super young team with a pile of capspace and just looking for a year of Gino rubbing off on the kids (....pause), sure. But if you're a competitive team, I don't even know if he's a good #2 at 6.1 anymore.

I see your point but he's pretty good still. Would help a contenders center depth for sure. If you're up against the cap I could see the acquiring team wanting him around $4m instead.

If they fire sale what is Crosby staying for? They are going to the basement pretty quick. Is that how he wants to end his career?
Posterity. Yzerman, Sakic etc all stayed. If you don't go to a team and win a cup you kinda tarnish your legacy. Guys like Crosby get that.

He will end his career as a winner regardless of how the Pens do in the standings. He has 3 Cups and a gold medal winning goal. He could play for another 10 years and the Pens could finish last in every single one of them and his legacy wouldn't be diminished one iota.

The only alternative to Crosby retiring as a Penguin would be if he chose to play a year or two for his childhood team in Montreal just to be able to say that he wore the Sainte Flanelle. But he won't be going to Denver to chase a Cup a la Ray Bourque. He doesn't need to.
